Trigger Warnings are REAL
This woman I share an apartment with told me that her broken acrylic nail âtriggeredâ her.
I then proceeded to say that I was offended by her use of that word, that when you use that word it should be meaningful and significant, that when you use that word it means you need emotional support and should probably leave the situation.
She proceeded to tell me that her broken nail was of significant distress to her and that I shouldnât be allowed to tell her what causes her distress. I then listed all of the reasons I use trigger warnings,
-when AHS showed rape
-when a classmate pretended to jump on top of me in a sexual way
-when I go to the doctors and feel exposed or vulnerable
-when someone says rape victims deserve it
She continued on to say that nobody actually used it in that context and that she wasnât actually offending anyone and would continue to disrespect and insult all of us that actually need to use trigger warnings.
