Christ it looks cold in Chicago! Hope you're weathering the wind chill all right!
I went out to the drugstore this morning at 9am.Â
Now, I wore a parka with the Warmest Sweater On Earth underneath it, but I forgot the most important part of sub-10F weather, which is you have to wear two pairs of trousers. Normally I just throw some yoga pants on over whatever else is on my legs, but itâs been a warm winter, so I forgot. And thus I went out in a parka and jeans, and my core temperature and extremities were fine, but all my leg hair froze and then snapped off.Â
The Diet Coke I bought at the drugstore froze in my backpack.Â
So except for snacks, bathroom breaks, and occasional unknowable freakouts about invisible spirits, weâve spent the rest of the day in bed with the heating pad on.Â
ignescent replied to your post: Fic co-authorship questions
I mean, threatening lawyers is bullshit, but imo if you guys cowrote you have equal control over the fic? So Iâm not sure how to resolve one person wanting to lock them and one person not. I feel like they have the right to veto pulling the fic out of circulation. Would you be willing to drop the co-author credit? I mean, thatâs unfair to you because you deserve the accolades that come with writing, but if the co-author is being that weird, it might be worth the loss
No, but thatâs just because I did the bulk of the work, from plot bunny development to writing almost everything except whichever one character they were writing. I mean, I locked them to protect them from theft. Which I guess is a terrible, horrible, no-good thing to do.
If I just did one chapter or something, I probably wouldnât care nearly as much.
And honestly, the fics arenât even that popular. The weak writing really does show through.

space ships need air scrubbers right? OMG- will there be Brutally Honest Drax Commentary?! OH! is Groot a teenager yet? *chuckles*
Yes! (except for MPreg...then squik) But the possibilities of pheromones in space?!! HAAAHaa yeah. do your worst!
Yeah, mpreg squicks me right the heck out, too, so thatâs not happening. Itâs not even going to be a possibility.

I'd read it. Also, you know how sometimes you just crave, idk, Doritos or cheese whiz or something? I feel like muses do that too....
That must be it!

You turned 40? So now I am like wtf at the passage of time, because according to my recollection you were in grad school like 12 minutes ago. (no, I know it was years, because it was LJ and like, we moved to years that started 201 somewhat after the LJ implosions and all, but aaaa). Also happy birthday, and I hope you had soup and decongestants.
RIGHT? It feels like it just happened. But hereâs how bananas time is: I was already out of grad school TWELVE YEARS ago. Twelve years ago was 2007 and I got my MA in 2005.Â

She looks like you just THREW that blanket on her, poor thing! :D (also, I love your descriptions. They're so much fun to read.)
She crawled under it all by herself! One of her great passions is Cilmbing Under The Blanket.Â
ignescent replied to your post âDo you have any thoughts about the announced adaptation of 'the City...â
As someone who also disliked the adaption of hogfather, going postal was rather good. They cut some of the subtext, of course, and shifted some of the dialogue, but it was really enjoyable all the same! But as a watch fan, I am going to do the same thing I did with good omens, which is wait until a ton of fellow Pratchett fans have fallen on the sword and then watch it or not based on their opinions.
Well, I would expect a media adaptation to have to do some compressing, but itâs nice to know they probably kept the spirit of Going Postal. Iâll have to acquire a copy and watch it at some point soon.
It would be hilarious if hating the very idea of this show drove me to re-read all the Watch books and I bounced back into Discworld fandom. It would be like living my life in reverse. Â

Peanut. Tiny polka dotty peanut. It was 78 degrees today. Youâre gonna be okay, baby.
There is nothing she likes better than being slightly hotter than any human being would find comfortable. The hours she has spent in the windowsill, huddled against the hot glass....

OMG for some reason I imagined Polk had a "deeper" voice than that - I always assumed Deebs was the higher voiced one
LOL! Nah, theyâre both very high-pitched babies. Polk mostly vocalizes like you hear in the video, while Dearborn tends to trill, but when they do proper meyows theyâre both still very squeaky.
The first time Iâve ever heard Dearborn properly meyow without squeaking was when she started yelling in the mesh carrier, poor kit. Â

Sadie & Smudge came running in to see what the problem was!! Polkâs so adorable!!
HAHA please reassure them sheâs fine :D (I took the pipe cleaner off right after I stopped filming and she chased it all over the hallway.)

And you just STOOD THERE while she SUFFERED, YOU MONSTER. (omg her tiny meow pls kiss her for me)
Yes she gets all the kisses! Even though she does not like them.Â

I just wanted to say that independent of thinking youâre cool in general, I am always impressed but the dedication you show to your internet fans. You do a better job as an internet celebrity than many real life celebrities seem to. So thanks for being awesome to the million of internet strangers that like you, on top of being cool enough to be liked by a million internet strangers.
Aw, thank you! I mean, itâs way easier for me than a celeb, because my reader base is still small enough that itâs manageable, but it still does take effort. Which Iâm glad to do; if people take the time to send me messages I should take the time to respond, thatâs just polite. Still, nice to have the work recognized :D
rsfcommonplace replied to your post âItâs been a cleansing morningâ
Do you unlike things once you have responded to them then? My likes pile is huge.
Oh yeah. At the moment I have around 10 likes, though my count says 21 because thereâs a years-long bug where somewhere between nine and twelve of my likes vanished without disappearing from the count.
I use Likes to mark things I want to save, things I want to engage with in more detail, or things that I want/need to respond to but canât right this minute; itâs like a slush pile. Pretty regularly, not daily but more often than weekly, I go through the ones that need a response and either respond and put it into my queue or save a reblog to my drafts to respond to later, then I go through the ones I want to engage with more deeply and read/watch something it links to, explore the text for whether I want to add commentary, etc.Â
There are some posts that I want to have handy for future reference, but those stay pretty static, and whenever I can I try to store them elsewhere, in bookmarks or evernote or something similar.Â
