i have edited out the screen for all your funny edit needs. go crazy.
itâs so hard to render, in fiction, precisely what sorts of multitudes people contain.
this is different than characters who are merely multifaceted. highlighting all the different ways people can be is common even in stylized adventure novels. youâll see the gruff old dude who is unexpectedly soft and sweet around young kids. youâll see the face that the kind mother shows to everyone else versus the face she shows to the protagonist, and see how they differ. stuff like that.
but a thing i keep circling around lately is how the reasons we have for making any particular choice, or doing anything at all, areâmuddy, messy, the sensation of a hundred thousand streams coming together all at once. the plot âalice cheats on bob with carol because sheâs pissed at bobâ is straightforward & readily digestible. but what about âalice cheats on bob with carol because sheâs pissed, but sheâs not even pissed about anything in particular, itâs just that the grocery store was out of milk and her kidâs been colicky lately and Debbie down the street is being a bitch again and so bobâs fuckery is in some way a convenient excuse for her own fuckery, and also she saw an advertisement today that made her feel old so this has a shade of Desperate Reclaiming Of Lost Youth, and also she never really ~experimented~ as much as she wanted to before getting married so thereâs a touch of maybe-repressed-gay-feelings there, which of course she herself is not even allowing herself to realize, and also thereâs the matter of the kitchen remodelâ...?
like, thatâs tedious. it lacks style; it lacks focus. the conventional wisdom is that, if your reader canât understand why Alice is doing shit, theyâre going to lose interest. but damn, even Alice doesnât even know why sheâs doing shit. does that mean sheâs not worth exploring?
i guess this is what those stream of consciousness writers were trying to get at, huh. once again, i find myself intimidated by & in awe of what Virginia Woolf manages to pull offâ
tony ships by the only person that cares
i made a powerpoint and i think you all should look at it i'm very proud of it and put a lot of effort into it clearly
i spent way too long on this doodleÂ
anyway, âtis my (lemon) boy Josh (who may or may not be a fae) and Aaren (his vampire bf)!! I was listening to sweet tooth by cavetown and,,,got inspired. Also Josh is usually lord of sass but gets flustered around Aaren :3 theyâre both very babey, i love âemÂ
