Summary: Stanley, who works in Animal Shelter, meets there his crush of few years- Bill and helps him. Or maybe the other way around.Â
Stan Uris really loved his job in the Derry’s Animal Shelter. His workplace wasn’t really big, nor was there a lot of animals, but despite this fact he had a lot to do. He worked for four hours a day after school in a suburban area of the town. His friend, Richie, sometimes drove him there, but he mostly jogged. He didn’t have time to do any sports because of the amount of work so this seemed like a good idea to use these few miles as a workout.
Anyway, his section was birds. You may think it’s really unlikely, but there were a lot of them- some found on the streets with broken wings, others given up after some kid didn’t like his Christmas present. Stan absolutely loved taking care of them. He would always talk with them and softly pet on head while whistling. It’s safe to say they adored him as much.
It was friday and Stan was in the middle of his shift when he heard his coworker talking to someone. A client for sure. He shrugged and came back to playing with his favorite bird- a blue Grosbeak.
-Hello my dear- Stan said happily while getting the bird out of its cage. It squealed, one could say, happily and jumped onto his hand. The boy smiled brightly.- How are you doing? Was your day as nice as mine, huh?- his voice was dripping with joy while he made a conversation with the animal. Stan took some of its food and placed it on a table, letting the bird hop off him and have something to eat.- Mine was great, really. I’ve talked with this boy in my biology class, the one I told you about, and even managed to get him to laugh. I’m not kidding birdie!- he said giddily.
Oh yes, Bill Denbrough- his crush of few years who sat behind him in biology. Stan had been doing everything in his power to get his attention and it finally had paid off. He and Bill were slowly becoming some kind of pals. The other boy would wave to him in school and greet with a smile while Stan blushed furiously and stuttered a response.
It was really immature but Stan couldn’t help it! Bill just had these pretty, deep eyes full of kindness and soft-looking hair, and he was so smart! Stan felt like some schoolgirl looking at him longingly and sighing every time their shoulders brushed. But that was it- nothing else had ever happened.
-H-uh-hi!- Stan froze. He felt his cheeks heating up and friendly buzz form in head when he had heard this voice. The voice of his crush it was. What was he doing there anyway? It’s not like animal shelter was in the middle of town or anything, he had to drive for fifteen minutes to get there.
-Hi- the other boy said. His voice broke and he scrunched his nose in confusion. After clearing his voice and taking a deep breath, or maybe four, he turned around to stand face to face with Bill Denbrough.- Hello!- he said with faked happiness.
-Hi- Bill chuckled and raised his eyebrows while repeating the greeting.- I’m look-ah-looking f-fo-for a parrot- he smiled brightly and shoved hands into pockets. Stan tipped his head a bit.- For th-th-uh-the brother- the other boy shrugged.- He lo-uh-v-v-v….- Bill stopped midsentence and rolled his eyes, clearly annoyed.
His stutter was endearing, really. Stan always smiled when Bill couldn’t get a slightly more complicated word out of himself and shortly after cursed loudly while rolling eyes. Not that he took joy in his suffering- no! There was just something special in the rosy color finding its way onto Bill’s pale cheeks and the huff of annoyance.
-The pirates?- Stan guessed. It was easy to do it, what else could he liked that was linked to parrots?
-Yeah- the other boy smiled thankfully and took few steps closer. Stanley blinked rapidly but quickly contained himself.- I like th-this one.
The shelter worker turned around and erupted into laughter. Bill sagged down slightly and rubber his neck in embarrassment.
-I’m sorry!- Stan got out of himself in between laughing.- I’m awful I’m sorry- he bit his lip, eyes still full of laughter.- This is not a parrot, but a Monk Parakeet, similar but not the same- he explained effortlessly.
Bill looked at him with intrigued eyes.
-And th-th-this one?- he pointed to another bird, wanting to see if the other boy knew it as well.
-A Hooded Warbler, do you know how parrots look? Because this one is as similar as me and Henry Bowers.
After a nice chat and finally choosing a good bird Bill paid for, the boys had to part their ways.
-Thanks for the h-uh-help- Bill smiled widely. He had chosen a red parrot with green feathers here and there that Stan had found few weeks ago with a broken wing. It kind of felt like giving away a child, but he did it anyway, because it was Bill and he knew the boy would take good care of his precious baby.
-No problem- it wasn’t truthfully. Stan felt like he was floating on a cloud of happiness, his head spinning and palms still sweaty. Nervous wreck but a happy nervous wreck indeed.
-S-so, this boy in b-b-biology, huh?- Bill smirked. Stan froze second time this day because of his crush.
-Oh god- it wasn’t happening, was it? He felt like his whole world crumbled down into dust and his heart was breaking. He wasn’t supposed to know.
-H-hey- the other boy softly spoke seeing Stan’s glassy eyes. He didn’t mean to embarrass him, well maybe a little, but not bring the boy he liked to tears.
The truth was, Bill also had a crush on Stanley. Not for as long as he did, it was all pretty fresh, growing up with every smile of the smaller boy and each stare they had shared.
That’s why he did the only thing he could think of- he planted a small kiss on Stan’s cheek and smiled sheepishly.
-I th-th-think he likes you too.
A/N: I hope you guys liked it!!! If you want to I could write next part(s) to it since I really enjoyed it :)Â
