the words came out quicker than she wanted, than she would have ever allowed. but the girl couldn’t help it – he was frustrating. always making a big deal about existing and living and how beautiful it was or whatever. she couldn’t stand it, not with the mindset she currently had. the girl’s voice broke slightly, expression faltering as she managed to swallow down the lump in her throat.

The Doctor sighed, all of the fear-fueled anger leaving him, an immense SADDNESS replacing it. He had done so much to try and show this girl her worth, to show her how amazing her life truly was, and STILL she had no hope. Nothing driving her to strive for greatness, or anything, really. She was just living, filled with this great EMPTINESS that he couldn’t seem to fill. His expression soft, head tilted slightly to the side, the Doctor looked at her with sad old eyes, as if he could peer into her soul and fix what was wrong.
“What happened to you? What made you feel so WORTHLESS? There is, and will only ever be, one you. One Annie Greenberg. And YOU are incredible. For you to die like that, it wouldn’t be right. It wouldn’t even be a sacrifice, Annie.
“It would be a WASTE.”

Without waiting for her to do as he says, he’s pulling the girl into hisarms, holding her in a tight HUG. He presses a kiss to the top of her head, before resting his chin on it. As much as he wanted to stay, heknew he would never be able to for as long as she needed, as long asshe wanted. She would leave him, either by choice or by death, or hewould have to leave her for her own good. For now, he had to give promises, eventually EMPTY promises, but mean them for as long ashe possibly could. At least, in that moment, his words were true.
“I’m right here, Annie. I’m here, as long as you want me to be.
“I’m not going anywhere.”
