another tragic life in ancient greece with horrible crimes against humanity committed against him: Phaedo of Elis
Phaedo of Elis was born in and from the ancient greek city of Elis, however, he was captured in war and then sold into slavery in Athens. According to historical accounts, (I say this because typing this out disgusts me) because of his beauty, he was forced into pr*stitution. He met Socrates (yes! the famous philosopher) and was eventually freed and ransomed by a friend of Socrates. He taught him philosophy, and was even present at his death. Phaedo eventually returned to Elis and established his own school of philosophy. (!! impressive! and at least things improved for him and he had a happier later phase of life, sounds like.)
So more horrible crimes against humanity in ancient greece: war captives, enslavement, and forced pr*stitution. what a vile shame and disgrace.
