Poster Design Development Hatch Show Print Inspired.

On Wednesday Afternoon we had sketched out our work for a poster concept and went onto beginning to make it. We wanted to created a breast using a method inspired by Hatch Show Print, upturning type and printing using the backs.

In theory it would have looked ace but in reality it didn't turn out quite so well. We spoke to Naomi who was impressed with our method and ideology, she gave us advice and for a possible development we have a way of producing the outcome we want.

Today has been a key turning point where I have been given constructive feedback as to where my projects focus should be.

I had a tutorial with my tutor Chris today who was incredibly helpful. He like my briefs but felt my main brief was a bit closed. The brief itself was sound but felt that my skills should be used on a project that worked outside the university.

Chris has suggested I work on a brand experience brief he has received from McCann. Although the topic is quite unusual it does sound exciting and I am up for the Challenge. I felt a bit stressed about changing briefs but with it being so early in the project I haven't actually lost any time.

Chris agrees that by doing one day briefs it will widen my skill set and get me thinking quicker and producing solutions more effectively. My one day brief this week has been answered and expand on further with mood boards ideation and then skills development that has lead me to produce a mock up.

Chris has also given me a list of competitions that may interest me as well. 

I am still a bit unsure as to where I am going with this module but with the main brief set in stone I can begin making progress on that. Work on the Baskerville project will also be submitted soon so that is another one to add to the bag.

I wanted to fully embrace the charm of the trade, and bring back a sense of nostalgia when it comes to milkmen. The idea of the notion the bottle allows for a highly crafted, yet personalised item to be produced and in theory be distributed to the consumer in the hope of attracting more custom.

This was the first time I have used ornaments or even created a metal type lock up of this scale before. It was a very interesting experience and one that takes a lot of patience as the process of composing, testing, printing and then putting everything back took roughly 7 hours. 

Copywriting has been something I wanted to explore here so I aimed toads a bit of charm and character to the voice of the message. This was then to be matched with a ‘cute’ design that is reminiscent of older times. I created a carbon copy of the print to make sure it worked before inking the lock up and printing a series of examples to create mock-ups.

For this one day brief, I wanted to explore the possible aesthetics that can be considered. As the brand has been trading for 45 years it would be interesting to take on a retro approach. I feel that this style would suit this brand well, giving off a family appeal. it can be simplistic and easily adaptable. 

This form of design was also known for its copy write and ability to story tell in a charming way that gives a sense of personal correspondence and reassurance with the brand.

I will be exploring this further, sketching ideas out for the note in the bottle and a possible bottle label use purposely for this campaign.

Live Brief

So for my live brief my client is Parkside Print-room’s Technician, Naomi. I have been working with Naomi since my first year as she has taught me all that I know about print, where she has taught me letter press, wood and metal, screen printing and Lino print. She loves the idea of giving the print room an identity where we can fully showcase the facilities on offer and get more students and staff through the door to use the presses and get more creative!

i have written a brief out for this but want to make sure it fully follows with my area of practise. Using the techniques shown today my brief will be answering the questions asked in the one day brief.

I have run a few ideas through with her and now I am going to fully solidify the brief at hand, run it past her and then present it to my tutor on Monday. I am excited about this brief and how it will enable me to get creative in an area that will create an experience for other students.

This first one day brief is one that I have thoroughly enjoyed working through. Even though it has not been completed, the progress made has been considerable and just goes to show the benefit of collaborating the ideas generation process can have on a project.

I would like to develop and mock up one of the ideas as a mini brief and submit this. The message in a bottle is one I am interested in tackling first and then the other two. This little task will allow me to develop my branding work as well as communication skills as I create a branded advertising campaign that tells the story of this small family run business in the hope of others wanting to experience the services they offer.

I aim to sketch and explore copywriting to bring this idea to life. Over the next few days my ideas generation will hopefully allow me to mock up the concept.

The last concept we has was the idea of the company sending out empty milk bottles with a note within - these would be left outside the front doors of the consumer. This idea cam to mind when, traditional at the end of the day the consumer would leave a note to the milkmen in the empty bottle. This note would tell the milkman what they would like to order for the next day.

This quant idea gives a personal touch and also will give the street an experience as they will see the milk floats delivering these bottles out.

I love this little idea and would like to develop it further.

This was probably our most ‘out their’ idea and probably one tactic that has never been done before. This company prides itself on delivering fresh, local milk, so we thought about how people might wonder where the milk is actually from.

Its obvious natural milk comes from cows, so a gimmick idea was to create a Tinder for Cows, where a zine like printed leaflet would show you an army of cows who help to produce the milk you drink. Its quite a fun yet memorable idea that gets all the family involved.
