I sat in silence, lost in my own mind,
when suddenly my doubts were left behind.
He sat beside me, and without a word,
my heart went back to places long deferred.
It felt like joy with you, .... back then
the moment brought it all right back again.
The voice, the hobbies, same deep gaze we knew..
we thought that no one else was like us two,
a rare fine wonder, built for just us two.
But how can anyone hold that as true,
when suddenly a new face comes in view?
A sharp reality, a sudden shock to center:
I’m looking straight at a DOPPELGÄNGER!?
Are we not built as special as we thought?
Was uniqueness just a story we were taught?
There’s many out there, built like you and me,
a world of mirrors, plain for all to see.
Were you a soulmate, just a fleeting dream?
A lovely wish where nothing’s as it seems?
Or were you, ....just a test to pass,
to clear my heart for real true love at last?
