Lawyers ask for impeachment of Brasília governor, following riots
A group of human rights lawyers filed a request to impeach Governor Ibaneis Rocha of Brasília.
The lawyers accuse Mr. Rocha of committing crimes against the free exercise of constitutional powers, crimes against national security, and malfeasance for his role in the lackluster security deployment that allowed a pro-Bolsonaro demonstration to evolve into a violent riot, with mobs storming the Congress and Supreme Court buildings, as well as the presidential palace.
“The carrying out of such acts of violence and terrorism was known to Governor Ibaneis Rocha. Brasília security forces even escorted the extremists to the Three Powers Square,” the impeachment request reads.
Local authorities had planned to deal with protests this week with a relatively small, minimally visible presence. Video footage shared on social media shows that many of the few officers present at the scene were peaceful conversing with rioters. Some were even taking selfies as throngs of radicals destroyed public property.

Police take back control of Brazil's Congress and Supreme Court after they are overrun by protesters.
Sore loser far right blowhards feel that instigating coups by gullible middle aged males is a must for their resumes.
The Sunday coup attempt by neo-fascist supporters of Jair Bolsonaro was reminiscent of the failed January 6th coup in the United States.
Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has vowed to punish supporters of the country's ex-leader, Jair Bolsonaro, after they stormed Congress.
Supporters of the ousted far-right leader also stormed the Supreme Court and surrounded the presidential palace.
But police regained control of the buildings in the capital Brasilia on Sunday evening after hours of clashes.
Brasilia's Civil Police said 300 people have been arrested and officials have vowed to track down others involved.
Good luck finding the rest of the perpetrators. We’re still tracking down the terrorists involved in Trump’s failed coup. Though it is reassuring that a number of them have already been sentenced to long prison terms.
On Monday morning, heavily armed officers in the city gathered outside a camp of Mr Bolsonaro's supporters - one of a number that have been set up outside army barracks around the country since October's election.
Meanwhile, Brasilia's governor, Ibaneis Rocha, has been removed from his post for 90 days by the Supreme Court.
Justice Alexandre de Moraes accused him of failing to prevent the riot and of being "painfully silent" in the face of the attack. Mr Rocha has apologised for Sunday's events.
Rocha’s apology was epically lame.
President Lula had been at an event in São Paulo and was never in danger from the mob. In fact, he hasn’t been living at the presidential palace because it is being repaired as a result of Bolsonaro leaving it in such poor shape. It’s probably in much worse shape now.
The dramatic scenes - which saw thousands of protesters clad in yellow Brazil football shirts and flags overrun police and ransack the heart of the Brazilian state - come just a week after Lula's inauguration.
He toured the Supreme Court building on Sunday night to see the damage for himself.
The veteran left-wing leader was forced to declare emergency powers before dispatching the national guard into the capital to restore order.
Bolsonaro fled to Florida just before his term ended. He’s still there as far as anybody can tell. Like Trump, Bolsonaro is an election denier who is a serial concocter of conspiracy theories.
Bolsonaro has repeatedly refused to accept that he lost October's election and last week left the country instead of taking part in inaugural ceremonies, which would have seen him hand over the iconic presidential sash.
The 67-year-old - who is believed to be in Florida - condemned the attack and denied responsibility for encouraging the rioters in a post on Twitter some six hours after violence broke out.
Speaking before he arrived in Brasilia, Lula said there was "no precedent in the history of our country" for the scenes in Brasilia and called the violence the "acts of vandals and fascists".
Speaking of fascists, Steve Bannon has been actively spreading Bolsonaro election conspiracy theories when he isn’t busy spreading Trump election denial.
Steve Bannon's Connection to Brazil Insurrection by Bolsonaro Supporters
Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX-20) told CNN that the US should should dislodge Bolsonaro from his Florida refuge and extradite him back to Brazil.

Brazil Justice Orders Federal District Governor Removed From Job
A Brazilian top court justice ordered Federal District Governor Ibaneis Rocha removed from office for 90 days while his responsibility in the unrest that took place in the nation’s capital is investigated.
Justice Alexandre de Moraes also gave 24 hours for police to disband supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro who have been camping in front of military headquarters across the country.
