According to Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX-20), Sec. of State Marco Rubio lied to Congress about a land invasion in Venezuela.

Rep. Castro accused Trump of using "the language of forever war" when Trump declared that the US would "run" Venezuela.

Of course the US ran Iraq and Afghanistan earlier this century with disastrous results. Afghanistan is now back under control of the Taliban and Iraq is a fractious mess on Iran's western flank.

If anybody is looking for an effective slogan, perhaps we could use this...

The Sunday coup attempt by neo-fascist supporters of Jair Bolsonaro was reminiscent of the failed January 6th coup in the United States.

Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has vowed to punish supporters of the country's ex-leader, Jair Bolsonaro, after they stormed Congress.

Supporters of the ousted far-right leader also stormed the Supreme Court and surrounded the presidential palace.

But police regained control of the buildings in the capital Brasilia on Sunday evening after hours of clashes.

Brasilia's Civil Police said 300 people have been arrested and officials have vowed to track down others involved.

Good luck finding the rest of the perpetrators. We’re still tracking down the terrorists involved in Trump’s failed coup. Though it is reassuring that a number of them have already been sentenced to long prison terms.

On Monday morning, heavily armed officers in the city gathered outside a camp of Mr Bolsonaro's supporters - one of a number that have been set up outside army barracks around the country since October's election.

Meanwhile, Brasilia's governor, Ibaneis Rocha, has been removed from his post for 90 days by the Supreme Court.

Justice Alexandre de Moraes accused him of failing to prevent the riot and of being "painfully silent" in the face of the attack. Mr Rocha has apologised for Sunday's events.

Rocha’s apology was epically lame.

President Lula had been at an event in São Paulo and was never in danger from the mob. In fact, he hasn’t been living at the presidential palace because it is being repaired as a result of Bolsonaro leaving it in such poor shape. It’s probably in much worse shape now.

Bolsonaro fled to Florida just before his term ended. He’s still there as far as anybody can tell. Like Trump, Bolsonaro is an election denier who is a serial concocter of conspiracy theories.

Bolsonaro has repeatedly refused to accept that he lost October's election and last week left the country instead of taking part in inaugural ceremonies, which would have seen him hand over the iconic presidential sash.

The 67-year-old - who is believed to be in Florida - condemned the attack and denied responsibility for encouraging the rioters in a post on Twitter some six hours after violence broke out.

Speaking before he arrived in Brasilia, Lula said there was "no precedent in the history of our country" for the scenes in Brasilia and called the violence the "acts of vandals and fascists".
