Part One, Chapter Thirteen (Page Eighty-Five):
"Rickey always had three or four PD with him and was happy-go-lucky about things. He and the Granbull dragged the wagon with astounding strength and speed and we were off to see farmers about manure.
Rickey had a bottle. 'Today we drink, tomorrow we work. Dere you go, man--take a bit!' Cubone sat in the back with her little hatchling; I looked back at her and saw the flush of homecoming joy on her face. The beautiful green October countryside reeled by madly. I was all guts again and ready to go.
'Where do we go now, man?'
'We find somebody with manure lying around, somebody big--then tomorrow we go back with the wagon and pick it up. Man, we'll make a lot of money. Don't worry about nothing.'
'We're all in this together!' yelled the Granbull. I saw that it was so--everywhere we went that was completely and exclusively Pokemon dominated, everywhere I went, everybody was all in it together. We went to a little dugout--me, Cubone, Rickey, and the Granbull sat drinking and shouting with everybody else; the little hatchling Johnny goofed with other pups. The sun began to get red. Nothing had been accomplished. What was there to accomplish?
'Tomorrow,' said Rickey. 'Tomorrow, man, we have it, we make it, have a bit more Berry juice, man, dere you go!'
We staggered out to the wagon and we were off to another, bigger one, that catered to the more nocturnal sort. Grandbull was a loud, vociferous type, who knew everybody in the valley. As purple dusk descended over the country, I found myself sitting dumbly in the cart as he argued with some old Venusaur over the price of a massive foreign Berry known as Iapapa the old thing grew around his nest."
