Venusaur (Promo A)

Just a little creative exercise I did. I made one Venusaur variety for each stat, each with a different evolutionary niche, type, ability, stat spread, and design. Here are the results.

Paldaen Venusaurs were bred to be a delight. They’re by far the tamest and friendliest type of Venusaur, they resemble big, friendly Bulbasaurs, and their thick hide protects them from all manner of garden pests, making them very low-maintenance pets. It’s said that anything growing on their back grows beautifully, and they’re never happier than when they can help the rest of your garden bloom as well.

Dominant stat: Defence. Abilities: effect spore/flower veil.

These guys are based on the concept of animals becoming more neonate when they’re domesticated, thus why it looks more like a bulbasaur. I was also going for the vibes of a cute lap dog, like a dachshund or a pug.

Hoennian Venusaur adapted to live in the watery landscapes of Hoenn, both saltwater and fresh. If you see a lilypad in saltwater or any other place they don’t grow naturally, it’s most likely them or one of their pre-evolutions laying belly-down and casting out its sweet-smelling vines to catch fish or amphibeans to eat. Despite their lazy nature and methods of hunting, Hoennian venusaur are by far the fastest of any venusaur, able to leap great distances and swim at great speeds if a water-dweller mistakes them for prey.

Dominant stat: Speed. Abilities: swift swim/sap sipper.

It’s based on… well, a frog, thus the long legs and the high eyes.

Between the energy in its humps, the water in its cactus, and the solar-panel-like scales on its side, Galarian Venusaur can walk for days without rest. Because of its naturally calm disposition, it doesn’t mind when humans use it to haul cargo. 

Dominant stat: Hp. Abilities: stamina/solar power.

Based on pachyderms and camels.

Unovan Venusaur has adapted to survive in grasslands despite the minimal cover they provide against predators. Using its rocky armour and its heavy, spiked tail, it can take on large Pokémon in open disputes. Small Pokémon hide in the grass on its back when predators appear. Without these protectors, poison-type Venusaur and their pre-evolutions may have gone extinct due to deforestation.

Dominant stat: Attack. Abilities: rock head/iron barbs.

Based on the Anklyosaurus.

Living in the dense underbrush where little sunlight reaches and photosynthesis is nearly useless, Jhotoian Venusaurs had to become more active hunters to survive. Their flower turns to face prey and uses powerful beams of energy to defeat them. Their heightened senses and long, powerful front legs help them both in defending from predators and in wrestling their territory rivals.

Dominant stat: Special Attack. Abilities: intimidate/poison point.

I wanted to make this one look a little nasty- like something you would NOT want to see while roaming the jungle. The ears and nose are meant to resemble a bat’s, and I made the eyes bigger and more forward-facing to emphasize that it is a predator.

Sinnohan Venusaur survives harsh winters by living off the energy it stores during sunnier months. Come winter, it will lay down roots and enter a meditative state that nothing can disturb. It remains unbothered even when covered in snow.

Dominant stat: Special Defense. Abilities: thick fat/own tempo.

I like to think if my grandpa and I were Pokémon we would be Bulbasaur and Venusaur.
