â¨Jin Zixuan-Jiang Cheng childhood friends to lovers
One of my modern MDZS AUs! That's a newer one that I'm having a ton of fun with, even if I lost the initial momentum
Fully inspired by talking to @the-pudding-is-a-lie lol
Here's a snippet! I haven't written the part where they get together yet, so this is building up to it.
They fought more that year. Every tension and new feeling built up until it burst out at the Lunar New Year party, hosted by one of the aunties in the neighborhood. Jin Zixuan could hear his mother yelling his name, could hear Jiang Yanli telling them to stop even through her tears, tears he had caused, because he was a fuck up that couldn't do anything right, who deserved the punch that Wei Wuxian gave him, but a fuck up that would still fight back. Jiang Cheng pulled them apart. Something ripped in Jin Zixuan's chest as Jiang Cheng glared at him, holding his brother's arm. He shook off the hands that helped him to his feet and stormed to his mother's car.Â
Jin Zixuan avoided the corners Jiang Cheng used to box him in to. That teasing was gone. He'd fucked up that relationship in his life, like everything else. He didn't need the reminders, nor any bruises that might come from it.Â
The Jins moved away that summer, barely letting Jin Zixuan finish school. His father's business was relocating, so they were too. It was fine. He would managed, like he always did.Â
He met Luo Qingyang on his first day at the new school. She showed him around the school, helped him find his classes, was overall very friendly. When he forgot her name for two weeks solid, she laughed and told him to call her Mianmian, if that was easier. It was.Â
He also met his academic rival, Lan Zhan, who was his grade despite being a couple years younger than him. Lan Zhan, nephew to the principle, top of his class. Silent, condescending, know-it-all. Beautiful.Â
It took the whole year to start to understand Lan Zhan. It took a too-honest conversation under the bleachers with his new friend to start to understand himself.Â
Gay? What does that mean? What are you talking about?Â
Praise be to the internet, that knew all things.Â
They talked more, and spent lots of time not-talking together. It wasn't long until they were a three-person unit, covering for each other's weak spots and hanging out in Lan Zhan's beautiful backyard or at the mall or studying together at the library. The only time this routine was interrupted was to go to one of Lan Zhan's recitals, or when Jin Zixuan went on a stilted and awkward date with a girl his mother introduced to him. At first, MianMian also tried to get him dates, until he shyly told her he wasn't sure he was into girls. After that, she offered to introduce him to boys but... He wasn't ready. He couldn't risk it. The dates weren't that much of a hassle anyway.Â
