Well the best I can say is that I finished. Today was a tough day. The swim went pretty well but the tendinitis in my heal made itself known as I was heading to the bike. On the bike, I hadn’t realized (which is entirely my fault) that the hills were long slow slogs. It reminded me a lot of Mont-Tremblant, not necessarily from the elevation, but from the long hills that took forever to get up. Couple that with my heel, not having trained enough, and carrying too many pounds and the bike wasn’t what I wanted. Then, I got out onto the run, ran the first 2 miles while talking with a new friend and then had to walk because all my energy was gone (and my heel hurt... I sense a recurring theme there). After too long of a time walking I was finally able to start doing run/walk. At first I did 1 minute running/1 minute walking and then got up to 2/1 run/walk before finally making it to 3/1. So, the run took a while. But, let’s talk about what went right! Normally after a 70.3 I’m completely wasted and have absolutely no appetite. But after having a sweat test this summer and discovering I was only replacing about 200-300mg of sodium/hour while I was sweating out about 860 mg/hour, I switched up my nutrition. On the bike I used a custom formula from @theinfinitloop with 600 mg/hr of sodium and then also took a salt tablet with 215 mg of sodium every hour. Then on the run I used 3 Gu every hour with a 140mg salt tablet every time I had a Gu. So when I got to the finish, even though I was tired and sore, I wasn’t pass out on the floor exhausted and I went right over and had 2 slices of pizza! So, score one for the nutrition. I may play around with the actual calorie counts/hour but I’m very happy with the salt. The other thing that made this race so great was the number of friends racing or volunteering. I’m not even going to try to name them because there’s around 50 of them, but suffice it to say that they made my day. So, anyway, this post has been way too long so let’s just say I’m glad the race is done finally! #bigsexyracing #rubyslube #iaminfinit #im703augusta (at Augusta, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/BoFkpPPD7ZU/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=ymwh5z493m41
