It had started with a simple invitation,

A strange one, mind you- he didn’t make regular stops to the bleachers behind their old middle school, a place for delinquents and schoolyard scraps, where clay dust dried out your mouth and eyes and clung to clothes and open wounds alike. But nostalgia is a fiend, and he figured Tetsu was one for reminiscing, and so he arrived a few minutes early (ever punctual, Monoma Neito), and waited for his dear, wonderful friend.

And then, he arrived, dark eyes glinting with the steely determination he loved so much, and Neito greets him, like always, and those large, calloused hands take his much smaller ones.

The following few minutes are slow, so slow, with a warmth that creeps through his body and ends in a horrible blush across his face, his heart stuttering through his chest, every single breathe lost as if it were swiped from right out of his lungs.

It takes him a minute to register the silence after, feeling so utterly lost he doesn’t even know where to begin.

“Tetsutetsu…”

He’d already agonized over what he wanted to say and whether or not it was a good idea to even confess such. It was rare that Tetsu found himself halted by indecision, but this was... different. He could potentially ruin everything, drive away the one person who’d left such a resounding impact on him, somehow managed to sneak past those carefully placed walls he’d forged over the years. 

He’s even thinking of backing down, coming up with some lame excuse to meet up and maybe tell a joke about that day he’d reached out to Neito and took his hand for the first time. Seeing the blond walk towards him, a heartfelt smile pulling at the corners of his lips reserved just for him, makes him reconsider however- A newfound surge of nervous courage singing through his veins.

“I got in,” he says breathlessly, meaning U.A., the school he had encouraged Neito to apply to alongside him. “But that’s not what I wanted to talk about.”

Taking in a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding, Tetsu gently closes his fingers around Neito’s, squeezing his far more elegant and dexterous hands between his own rougher, square-palmed ones.

“I don’t want to enroll unless you’re going too. I mean, it’s still your decision, but... I just don’t want to think about waking up every morning not being able to see you, talk to you about anything and everything, be right there by your side. You’re still my best friend, Neito, but whenever I see you... I feel like my chest is going to burst from all the things I want to say- And I feel like if I keep it all inside, I’d be missing out on what things could be like between us.”

He takes a moment, unafraid to meet the other boy’s slightly confused gaze with a quietly determined look of his own.

“I want to be with you- Today, tomorrow... For the rest of my life, just you and me.”

There’s a moment of silence that falls between them and that nervousness started peaking in the back of his mind once again.
