Sorry to hear about the funeral, my condolences <3 I hope it went okay. Sending hugs, if you want them 🫂

The ceremony was today, and it was very moving. I cried a good bit, but not as much as many others. We were lucky with the weather, it was sunny but not too hot.

Afterwards we had a Leichenschmaus nearby that was very nice too, traditional with Butterbrezeln, Hefezopf and Nusszopf.

I'm not sure how I feel now. I'm tired and a bit overwhelmed, but I don't think I'll struggle too much with mourning. It will hurt, I'll cry from time to time, but it's not going to dominate my emotional landscape. She was over ninety and has long lived with ever worse chronic pain, her death was a release, and luckily went quickly. My grandfather is the one my heart goes out to.. but I'm also glad I get to go home on Sunday, if I'm honest.

#I'm glad I was able to stay with my grandfather for ten days but it was very exhausting #he was glad to have me here #he would have been alone for the first time in like seventy years or something #and that's gotta be very hard #but yeah I'm very glad to be leaving as well #I'm drained #and now he's gonna have to decide how to continue his life without his wife #who's been in his life for so long that he doesn't know how to live without her really #and he's turning 92 next week #not an age at which change comes easy #(I'm not looking forward to coming home to 32°C...)
