She is a twin. Her and her sister. We met some new people today and were talking about families and our new friend asked if they were identical or fraternal.

And my twin friend said “I don’t know.”

And I leaned over and looked at her, confused, and asked, “...how do you not know?” I moved back to my original spot saying, “You guys look almost exactly like.”

And she said that there is a test that can be run to check whether or not your fraternal or identical. You can’t tell just by looking, even if the twins in question look exactly alike. “Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are fraternal twins,” she said, and all of us at the table responded in various ‘whoas!’ and ‘really?’ and ‘WHAT’ so that was an interesting conversation.

And the test is like $1,000 or so and neither she nor her sister are just burning with the need to know, so they don’t plan on getting the test done any time soon.

Almost like an afterthought she said her doctor might know. It’s been over 22 years since they were born. That’s a lot of babies and people to keep track of. But apparently she and her sister were the first set of twins that doctor delivered. So we decided that’s special enough to have remembered over the ages, if he still knows.
