- Really any writing advice that tells you what to write instead of “tricks to get the effect you want to write” is dumb.

- Saying something like, “if your protagonist is always right all the time, it could make the reader feel disconnected and enraged” is better than saying “don’t make your protagonist right all the time.” Maybe the writer wants the reader to feel disconnected and enraged. Maybe they have a clever trick to make an all-knowing protagonist who won’t make the reader feel disconnected and enraged.

- Really, I think most writing advisors don’t mean for their rules to be taken as gospel (though some really do and I, for some reason, blame CinemaSins.), it’s just that’s how young n’ dumb writers will take it.

- I really don’t see how the three act structure is so popular. If your 2nd act is twice as long as the others with a clear change of direction in the middle, you have four acts. It’s a much cleaner way to think about it.
