Been on a "paint random shit and don't take it seriously" kick lately and wanted to compare some paint sets. Therefore, I give you doughnuts.
Base paint - cottman water colors
Details - arrtx jelly gouache (colors), Winsor & Newton designer gouache (white)
Thoughts - Liked these water colors best and quite happy with how the blueberry doughnut came out. Don't love the jelly gouache, but I'm determined to use them up.
Base paint - hyperexist pebble watercolors
Details - Arrtx jelly gouache
Really happy with the texture on the orange doughnut. These water colors are conceptually neat and can be fun to play with, but less pigmented than I'd like and very slow to soak in the water. They're not single-pigment, and I was also disappointed to see that the purple separated a bit when used as a wash. I like that they're local and the manufacturer seems to have a good ethos, but there's a reason paints aren't usually made with food-grade pigments.
Base paint - Pelikan lichtfeste Deckfarben
Details - arrtx jelly gouache and W&N titanium white
The paints I used for the base aren't really meant to be used how I used them, so I won't complain about the texture they give. The pigment concentration is really nice, and would be great for other projects.
Okay, I lied - I'm gonna complain about the texture - they're weirdly gritty to paint with, especially when the set is no longer brand new.
