thoughts on the first fifteen minutes of PJO season 2
i don't want to be a hater. i did like I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom quite a bit. but James Bobin's episodes are absolutely the weakest of season 1, and just starting season 2, it's gotten worse.
i love a creative twist to movement, but the shot choices feel so awkward, and it pans between two shots over and over again in the worst moments. it's like it can't pick a focus, or it fills the screen too much or leaves the view with too little.
i'm not a film student!! i acknowledge this is not my field of study. but i really do love movies and tv, and i really do enjoy analyzing this media, and i'm really disappointed by the decisions i'm seeing from the start.
a lot of people click off in the first ten minutes, and if i wasn't a pjo superfan, i might've until ep3 comes out and binged then.
on a different note, Anders Engström's first five minutes when i first watched We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium two years ago had me running to my Instagram to give my flowers, so I'm really excited to see he's still working on the show. he makes visuals feel like masterpieces A LOT in ep3 and ep7 of season 1. no hate to I Plunge to My Death, the falling sequence will always be famous, but the other two felt like visual desserts.
on other news, the cast is as radiant as ever, you can just tell that leah and walker are meant for these characters. super excited to see more from daniel diemer.
sally's speech felt cringe, but not because of performance. the lines just didn't have the right cadence, and that's on the writers.
annabeth's i didn't say boyfriend! and later percy's there's another boyfriend? peak cinema. can't wait for the ride.
