Hubertusjagd participants in Isernhagen, Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony), Northern Germany. The St Hubert's Day hunt is an annual event in parts of Germany, honoring the patron saint of the hunt. Colorful festivities occur annually on and around Nov 3, St. Hubert’s birthday, drawing crowds of spectators. The festivities usually involve church services and a staged "fox hunt" with riders on horses and hounds, chasing the scent of a fox through fields and forests. Usually, no actual fox is involved in this these days and no animal actually gets harmed in the process - it's for sports and tradition only and usually ends in a feast with seasonal delicacies such as mushrooms and game dishes.Â
