I bought this self insert romance manga, where the guys talk directly to the reader and it never shows the heroine. I was excited to read it, and then I realized.... This is a HAIKYUU doujinshi!! I've never even read Haikyu! I don't even like volleyball!! I accidentally bought a self-insert Haikyuu doujinshi!

Not much to note here this time, besides the word “like” and “love”.
Japanese apparently did not use あいしてる ( aishiteru = love) a lot, and tend to use 好き (Suki = like) instead for daily uses. Their “like” is kinda equal to “love” in Western language. It’s cultural differences, it doesn’t mean they love you less!
Yes, the artist name literally translate to microwave, like their icon! I am planning to put the artist name, comments, and account (pixiv,etc.) from now on if possible. Unfortunately some didn't provide their account info, thus it is harder to find them. As sometimes I don't really know whether it is the artist or just someone that uses the same pen name.

Hello! Apparently I’ve been super busy with the upcoming concert on my work place (tons of meetings and music sheet’s review!) and preparing ABRSM piano exam for my students, so this book review got delayed. Anyway, let’s get started!
Before get into the actual book review, let me explain a bit about the differences between Haikyuu Kareshi and Haikyuu Boyfriend.
Haikyuu Kareshi’s format is actually a yon-koma (four panel) doujin format and Haikyuu Boyfriend’s format is like your usual manga format. Some of my friend told me that they prefer Haikyuu Boyfriend because it’s like reading the actual manga, but as for me, I prefer Haikyuu Kareshi in yon-koma format. I could be biased because I read Haikyuu Kareshi first and instantly fell in love with it, but this is my personal preference.
Another thing I’d like to mention is; in Haikyuu Kareshi, each character always got 5 story pages and another one for the Author’s page, so in total 6 pages. Haikyuu Boyfriend is kind of inconsistent regarding this matter. Some character got 4 pages and some got 6 pages.

So, if you like the usual manga format more than yon-koma format, I think you’re going to like this Haikyuu Boyfriend. More details about them is under the cut!

Because I’ve seen lot of different things in Haikyuu Kareshi (they offer us lot of theme and make our wallet cry), I’m sorry to say that this first volume doesn’t excite me that much :(
The stories are cute though, and I don’t think the characters here are OOC as well. Probably it’s because I’ve seen lot of different theme in Haikyuu Kareshi and in this HQBF Vol. 1, they’re going back with no specific theme book (just like the Haikyuu Kareshi First Edition) and it might be a little bit boring for me.

I think the setting in this book is in training camp with Karasuno, Nekoma and Fukurodani.
Okay! There’s one thing I really like in this book! Since the format of HQBF is manga format, the artists did lot of experiment with this. Like for example, in this book, you can see the boys are fighting over to win your heart. It’s one thing that they don’t have in Haikyuu Kareshi and to be honest, this is something new for me. They’re interacting more together in front of you and it’s fun to see their (dumb) shenanigans. No OOC characters here and that makes everything perfect.
I only bought 2 books from HQBF series and I don’t think I’ll buy the other HQBF, not because the book isn’t interesting enough for me but I think I prefer Haikyuu Kareshi because I like the format better and I already collecting Haikyuu Kareshi. My wallet is going to cry if I start collecting HQBF too lol. Probably I’m going to scan one of the story in HQBF one day, if I have spare times. For now, this is the end of my book review, let me know if you guys decided to buy it okay!
Totally forgot about the review I need to write about HQBF lol. I haven't even finished reading it. I'm going to read it while waiting for my students today.
