Pt 1 Remus:

Remus knew he was a boy since a really young age, he never wanted to wear the 'girly' clothes and always hated his name.

Both his parents were accepting of it, and as he got older he asked them to refer to him with he/him pronouns and they both did (although Lyall would slip up a lot, for a couple of years)

At 9 he had read a lot about werewolves and the history of them, and he had stumbled upon the name Remus so he asked his parents if that could be his name and they said yes

Sometimes Remus would be wearing a skirt or dress he borrowed from Lily and Lyall would get really confused, the first time Remus wore a skirt again since he was 3, Lyall thought it was a phase and called him by she/her pronouns and used his deadname

Remus started crying and ran out the house, Hope had a go at Lyall and Lyall was still really confused but apologised to Remus and didn't misgender him again

When Remus came out as bisexual, Hope was literally so supporting, hugged him and not very discreetly asked if he had a crush on Sirius

Lyall took longer to come to terms with it, he didn't understand bisexuality and just thought Remus was gay

But Hope basically knocked some sense into Lyall, and one evening, Lyall asked Remus to explain what bisexuality is to him

The bisexual flag hadn't been created yet but his parents painted onto Hope's vw van "love is love" and "gay is good"

Late June in Sixth year

It was 4:30am in the Gryffindor common room and light from the distant sunrise was beginning to filter into the room. Marlene was sat alone mulling things over in her head. She knew she wanted to tell people, but it was terrifying and she had no idea what people would say. She was fairly sure she would be accepted by all those who mattered the most to her, but there would be no turning back once she’d done it and she felt that people would view her differently even if they did accept her. She kept flipping between the decision to wait another few weeks and just do it on the train home giving everyone the summer to adjust and the decision to just do it the next morning at breakfast. Marlene was sick of hiding it, it wasn’t disgusting or abnormal, it’s just love and there is nothing wrong with that Marlene thought to herself. 

‘Marls?’

Marlene looked up, Lily had appeared at the bottom of the stairs to the girls dormitory. Her red hair fell messily around her pale face and her sharp green eyes looked exhausted. Marlene smiled at her. 

‘Couldn’t sleep’ Marlene said while Lily walked across the room towards her.

‘Neither’ Lily replied as she plumped herself down on the sofa next to Marlene and rested her head on her shoulder. They sat there like that for a while, comfortable and safe in the silence before Lily picked up her head and looked over at the screwed up balls of paper littered over the floor around them.

‘What are they?’ She asked. Marlene mumbled something inaudible. Lily thought nothing of it and went to tidy them up but Marlene scrambled to get to them first, chucked them in the fireplace and pointed her wand at them. Instantly the balls of paper burst into flames and shrivelled up before disappearing completely, Marlene felt a bit smug, she had always been quite good at that spell but she hadn’t managed to do it silently until that point.

Lily stood up and stared at the fireplace, she then turned to look at Marlene, her eyes wide and confused.

‘What on earth was all that about?’

Marlene just shrugged and sat back down on the sofa curling her legs underneath her. That was close. Those balls of paper were drafts for a letter to her mum telling her everything. Lily almost seeing one of the letters made Marlene realise just how afraid she was of people finding out. Lily sat down next to Marlene and looked at her concerned.

‘Marls, if there's something you want to talk about-’

‘It’s nothing’ Marlene replied sharply. 

Lily continued to look at her unconvinced and worried.

‘It doesn’t seem like nothing’ Lily said softly. Marlene rested her head on Lily’s shoulder, she felt so scared but she didn’t want to let it show so she just snuggled further into Lily wanting to feel safe, but whilst Lily didn’t know she couldn’t feel truly safe with her.

‘Ok if you don't want to say, I get it. But Marls, you can honestly tell me anything I really wont judge. Remember, I even told you about… well you know…’ Lily let her voice just trail away allowing the silence to seep into the room once more. They sat there like that, with Lily’s head resting on Marlene’s which was resting on Lily’s shoulder. After a while Lily noticed her shoulder was ever so slightly damp. Lily moved and looked at Marlene who was crying silently, her eye’s bloodshot from the tears.

‘Oh Marls’ Lily whispered tenderly and she took Marlene into her arms holding her tight but careful not to crush her. Marlene let her hold her; it was so tiring bottling everything up and more than anything she was fed up. She was just so fed up of being scared about people finding out, of not knowing how people would react, but most of all she was fed up of keeping what she and Idonea had a secret when it made her so happy. Idonea had told her family and gotten kicked out, she lived with a cousin who had also been disowned for the same reason. This made Marlene feel so pathetic, Idonea knew she would be disowned yet she still had managed to do it. Idonea should be the one in Gryffindor, Marlene thought to herself, not me.

Idonea Oxenbrigg was a Ravenclaw seventh year with long curly black hair that fell down to her hips with gorgeous caramel brown skin and round kind eyes. They first met over the christmas holidays when they were the only girls above third year staying at Hogwarts over christmas. Idonea taught Marlene that her feelings weren’t wrong in any way and that in fact, they were actually quite beautiful. 

The thought of Idonea calmed Marlene down and slowly, she stopped crying. When Lily went to remove her arms from around her Marlene looked up at Lily. Her eyes were puffy and still full of tears, she didn’t want Lily to move. Lily seemed to understand this, so she placed a kiss on Marlene’s forehead and mumbled ‘one second’. She then got up and rearranged the cushions on the sofa whilst Marlene looked at her with a puzzled expression on her face. Lily just smiled sweetly and lay down on the sofa leaving enough room for Marlene who understood and followed suit, laying down next to her and nuzzling her face into Lilys neck. Carefully, Lily wrapped her arms around Marlene and kissed her on the forehead again.

‘Marls. I love you, and whatever it is, when you’re ready, you can tell me. I wont judge you’

Lily felt Marlene nod her head and let the Silence swallow them up once more, broken only by the sound of the birds that were beginning to sing outside. There in Lily’s arms Marlene felt completely at peace. She was safe with Lily and knew she meant every word. 

Marlene closed her eyes tightly and took a deep breath.

‘I like girls’

Marlene felt Lily give a reassuring squeeze of acceptance before they both drifted off to sleep as the sunlight bled into the room, reaching their legs and gently warming them. Marlene had come out and been accepted by Lily and in that moment that was all she needed.

“Mmm, that stings, you said it didn’t hurt!” Teddy scolded playfully laying on his side on the bed. 

James ignored him using his not busy hand to quickly brush his hair back out of his face. 

Teddy loved the way James’ lips tightened with concentration and the way he brushed his hair back and fixed his glasses regularly. 

James put his hand back onto the skin of Teddy’s lower back touching the small needle into the other boys hip. 

Teddy continued to playfully tease and James responded in grunts and looks. 

He pulled away staring at his boyfriend’s hip bone. 

“Done” James breathed playfully leaning forward to kiss the area just above the tattoo where the skin was still sensitive, Teddy flinched a little. 

He stood off the bed stretching his arms up above his head and crossed the room to the mirror.

Teddy smiled fondly turning to look at the tattoo from different angles. 

Teddy turned around to where his boyfriend sit on the carpet and walked over he leaned down and kissed him lightly.
