I first encountered @sytheauthor’s work when I read Soul of an Octopus. I loved it, and when my brother gave me this book for Christmas, I knew it had to go to the top of my to-read pile (which fills a room). I feel like she writes about connecting with animals in a way that I totally identify with. I would call her a nature writer rather than a zoology or biology writer, in that she talks more about animal behavior and her interactions with them in a way that is more literary than scientific, and she really captures the way I feel about animals as well. To my mind, she doesn’t anthropomorphize the animals so much as acknowledge that while these are creatures that don’t think or feel as humans do, they are no less capable of thought or feeling. This definitely won’t be the last Sy Montgomery book that I read! #thismakesmehappy #books #2021reading #symontgomery #howtobeagoodcreature #animals #animalbooks #nonfiction https://www.instagram.com/p/CJr6UhYJrEm/?igshid=wbqgvxmrbv0t
