Is it... always a bad idea to keep a kitten with their mom into adulthood? Or does it really depend on the individual cats? Are there factors that will make it more or less stressful/likely to work, aside from individual cat personalities?
It’s going to depend on individual cats. From what I’ve seen at my shelter, the mom cats don’t really particularly care once the kittens start getting past 2 or 3 months of age. Maybe feral cats care longer because food isn’t guaranteed, but indoors where there’s plenty of food and she doesn’t have to provide while the babies learn to hunt? Mostly I see mum avoiding the babies and sometimes swatting at them if they try to share her food bowl while she’s eating.

Do you have any strategies for preventing a cat from eating plants? Obviously, I'm only getting plants that are non-toxic to cats. The issue though is that my cat will literally sit there and eat an entire plant in one sitting. He also likes to depot them, shred the roots, and carry them around in his mouth. The plants are not happy about this, and usually die. We have another cat that he likes and plays with frequently, he has plenty of toys, and gets lots of human attention when he wants it.
This is gonna be another tough one, and whoo boy are you gonna hate me.You have to keep the cats from getting to your plants.Even if you want to train them not to go near the plants, you still have to have a way of physically stopping the cats from getting to the plants during training. Either by putting them up high, or outside, or in a series of carefully thought out and impenetrable baby-gates.
I don’t know what you’re reasonably able to do, but cats will eat wild plants. It’s good that you’re cautious about what you allow, and even introducing things like cat grass probably won’t curb the behavior.
But even if it’s non-toxic doesn’t mean it’s super great for cats. AND the plants are obviously not going to be happy (ie- dead) so long as the cat can get to them.
It’s a similar situation of keeping your cat away from your pet mice.
You just gotta keep them in separate rooms, or in a situation where the cat absolutely cannot get to them in any way. What that entails is entirely up to you, though, and I’m really sorry that this isn’t an easy training fix.

1. Catholics believe all of us (humans) have immortal souls. After death the souls are categorized by morality. Those who did good acts go to heaven. Those who did bad acts go to hell or purgatory.
2. Baptisms are forever, even if they were done by another Christian faith. The exception is dark baptisms (Satanist baptism) or Mormon baptism.
