ok but.....hear me out.....

she wouldn’t be ABLE to surprise her bc she was probably a pow and was presumed dead and like. everybody really thought she died. the military thought she died. she got a funeral (albeit with an empty casket).

but like. she’s still her emergency contact. so when she’s rescued and ends up in the hospital, after she’s finally able to give her name, they call clarke and clarke is like ‘you have the wrong number. lexa is dead’ all deadpanned and cold and distant but her heart is jumping at the even mere MENTION of lexa. but she doesn’t get her hopes up bc it’s probably been like. a year since the funeral and she’s been trying to move on so she can’t get wrapped up in the fantasy that maybe she’s alive. but the nurse on the phone is like ‘i don’t think we have the wrong person - alexandria is very much alive. and she’s asking for you’. which like. throws clarke into a tail spin.
