"All I want to do when we get the resort is take a nap before dinner," Jill said irritably.
Their day of travel hadn't even been that grueling, but she was grumpy and stiff from being up at the ass-crack of dawn, driving to the airport, flying here, shuttles, luggage, etc. Underneath her agitation though there was a spark of joy waiting to be unleashed after a little bit of rest. Against all odds she and Chris were actually going to be spending a week in Disney World together like they had joked about.
When Jill had brought it up to Rebecca to get some help planning the trip, their friend had not only jumped at the idea, she'd insisted on taking over all the planning and arrangements. Rebecca had mentioned something about the two of them deserving a treat and that she had some rewards points she wanted to get rid of, so Jill had just gone with the flow. What resulted was they had adjoining rooms at a beautiful resort, passes to all of the major surrounding parks, and a host of other perks Jill couldn't even remember anymore. Rebecca had truly gone all out it seemed, and Jill was just thankful she had another person in her life as wonderful as the man beside her.
In her excitement, Jill had even gone to a stylist and had the remaining blonde ends of her hair trimmed off. It was a shorter style than she usually wore, but it, along with this trip felt like a fresh start. She was admittedly a bit apprehensive about spending this much alone time with Chris. After they'd spent the night curled together on her couch a few weeks ago her feelings for him truly had become impossible to ignore. But she tried to push past that worry because if nothing else, this was a golden opportunity to rebuild everything they'd lost together. Jill was NOT going to waste it.
That was right up until they checked in for their rooms at the resort; correction room.
"Ah yes, Valentine and Redfield, here we are, and must I say congratulations to the beautiful newlyweds!" said the staff member behind the front desk.
"This has to be a mistake, we're not…married," Jill said going crimson at the implication. Not because she was embarrassed by the assumption that she and Chris were recently married, but by how appealing that sounded to her some day. But as it turned out, no, there was not a mistake, at least not with their reservation. The staff had even shown her all the details, paid in full.
Jill fired off a text to Rebecca, "what the FUCK are we doing in the Honeymoon Suite, Chambers?" But all she got in a response was an inscrutable string of emojis, "🤷♀️👍"
"I swear that woman could probably get away with murder with her adorable little 'thumbs up' shtick," Jill grumbled.
On the one hand, it was probably going to be the best hotel room she would ever spent time in for the rest of her life. It was the premier room at this resort, it was probably utterly palatial. On the other…it was undoubtedly going to be decked floor to ceiling with romantic motifs and drowning in pretense. Not to mention the hotel staff were going to assume the two of them were married all week. If Jill was honest with herself, were she to ever have a spouse in this life, it would be Chris—she knew that now.
Oh well, what were they even going to do about it anyway? Not take an absurdly expensive room? They were adults, they could figure this out.
Jill turned to Chris and gave him a tentative smile, "Well 'hubby', should we go see this massive fuck-off room Rebecca booked for us?"
