"People may call my job as being a desk jockey, at least what I do is engaging and actually crucial to the aid of both federal and local agencies. Mom didn't raise me to accept gendered bullshit like that!"
Love my little blood alchemist
A gentle recognition flooded over gentle features, nothing that resembled relief, she had forgotten a long time ago how to indulge in such emotions. This didn’t mean that she didn’t feel the familiar warmth, and protective instinct she had towards the female. The small sense of joy that Ada wasn’t sure was allowed to be her own flickered behind her eyes seeing Grace had remembered her.
Her head tilted slightly amber gems tracing over Grace as she apologized, her eyebrow arching. “You don’t need to apologize for recognizing me.” Her voice was the same silk laced tone she always carried with herself. “I spent far too much time in my life making sure people didn’t.”
Her dark gems lingered only for a brief moment of time. She picked up on the hesitation each sentenced carried, Ada didn’t blame her what the poor girl had seen and endured with her mother’s death. Trauma and fear were something Ada knew all too well.
She shook her head a small smile curving on her lips leaving faint smile lines. “I wouldn’t be shocked by forgetting, The mind has a way of locking its own doors for a reason.” She adjusted her posture, the same confident stance where her weight rested upon her hip with her arms crossed over her ribs. “I’m actually glad you remembered me, I ‘de hate to think all the effort placed into being unforgettable went to waste.” A small hum of a laugh escaped the older woman, showing her own dry humor.
Thank god. Grace knew how uncomfortable it made her if she knew or suspected that people were staring at her. Looks like the older woman was used to getting such attention; unwarranted or not.
A sense of relief washed over Grace with hearing this voice again. During that time, Grace didn't really let anyone new in. Maybe that's why despite her face blindness, she was able to remember Ada. She made a strong impact on the young woman's life when she was at her lowest. When she had practically lost everything she knew and had to rebuild on her own.
"Of course I wouldn't put what you taught me to waste. I-It was actually very helpful recently." Grace replied with an awkward smile. That sense of dry humor is one she's very familiar with; it was in fact part of her own for period of time.
Not all of it could be used in the heat of the moment, though recognizing the bluff of an unloaded gun as a threat that eventually becoming an actual threat and acting upon it was one that came to mind. Was it foolish in a way to put the spotlight on and threaten to kill herself in the moment? Yes. But it got the result she hoped for at the time; serving as a distraction and playing what cards were in her hand correctly.
Grace wasn't exactly sure if Ada was in the mood for small talk; given the other's solitary lifestyle. It couldn't hurt it ask if she has the time, right? "H-How have things been on your end? If you mind talking about it."
Was selectively mute from the ages of 3-6. She’d only speak to people she trusted.
Her family were obviously the first ones outside of Alyssa to hear her speaking voice in person; they’d hear it in the background whenever Alyssa was on a phone call with them.
It was a very celebrated accomplishment each time Grace finally got the courage to become verbal with each member of the Outbreak crew.

"Hi, Gracie."

“D-Dad?? Wh-Wh-What are you doing here?” Grace stammered as she quickly went to get a towel for Kevin to dry himself off with. It wasn’t often that she got surprise visits from him, yet they always caught her off guard.
So, what’s brought him over this time? A check up on how Grace had been doing?
@metmydeadline: "A hell of a lot of Naan and Chicken. It smells so good and I'm starving. Let's eat."
Naan and chicken huh? A more simple meal, but sometimes those simple ones are the best ones of the week. Grace had gone and cleaned up her things from the table and set it up for dinner.
Sounds like it's been a long day for Alyssa. "So, what happened at work today?" A normal question. One that at times came with juicy answers that Grace loved digging into the details for.

Grace heard the familiar opening and closing sound of the door; the one she always waits for. While sometimes it happened earlier or later, it was a good way for her to tell what time it was without looking at a clock.
There wasn't any interesting discussions on the boards today, so Grace had been reading and getting a good start ahead for schoolwork.
"Hey Mom." She greets while putting what was in her hands down. "What did you get this time? Don't think I saw that place when we got into town."

Anonymously send me '+' and a question and my muse has to answer honestly no matter how uncomfortable it makes them
Leon Kennedy can ride a motorcycle off an apocalyptic skyscraper irl, but he can't make a sharp turn on Mario Kart to save his life... Thankfully Grace is here to save the day
If it was hard to tell if his words helped. The shaking seemed to ease a little but not completely, persisting as it typically did. The girl was a constant shivering, quaking chihuahua compared to her pit bull of a mother, and he still wondered how that drastic difference in temperament had happened.
“Okay, got a good grip on it?” He checked the tiny fingers wrapped around the handle and figured they were probably as good as they were going to get. “Right. Now hold tight and swing it in front of you.” Hopefully when doing so she would notice that the world did not in fact explode like she seemed to expect, and would ease up.
-> @sanctusinhope
She backs up slightly; her own precaution about accidentally getting Uncle David from this practice swipe. Yeah he would be okay and not say anything about it, but the thought of hurting someone Grace considers her family wasn't one she wanted to become real.
Grace moves her arm towards herself and with the sharp edge aiming outward. Deep breaths. She's already done the first step of having a knife in her hands, and she can do this too. It takes the girl a bit to build up the internal courage to do it, eventually she straightened out her arm out. Her eyes watching the blade as it moved in tandem.
It almost felt like those toy swords. Except there's actual metal weight to this; not that airy plastic or foam feeling.
Also means that Emily gets clone friends too. The youngest of them all, but still people that have a similar experience to her.
"The Connections' obsession with cloning...is very disturbing."

The two (soon to be three) pieces of Grace that exist. Their eyes turn to Grace's pale blue whenever either access memories beyond their scale.
His method of quelling the ache is not the first time, and it is far from the last. It wasn't ideal, and at this stage it merely rounded the edge but it had to work. He had to make it work.
❝ Clear your head. Overthinking is going to throw off your aim. ── Watch. ❞
Back slammed by a mutated freak on grated floors. Blitzed in the shoulder. Flung back against a metal beam. A Parasite overtaking the spinal chord and nerves. Thrown against a shipping container by a T-103, thrown again by yet another T-103 against a pillar. Bus crash. Plane crash. Hellicopter crash. Back shredded by the C-virus deformed Security Advisor. Then Thrown by a mutated arms dealer at a wall. Flung off a bike at full speed. Thrown by a Tyrant Again. Thrown by a rocket launcher blast. Then who can forget . . . . fall ── after fall ── after fall ── again ── after again ── after again.
It's no surprise that when the man takes his turn, grip tight but digits tingling from neuropathy, that after five consecutive rounds the gun slams back down onto the table. Each kickback practically stricking all the tender chords from hands to lower back. Frustration overcasts the pain as he leaned forward, head resting on clasped palms. He's in pain── fine, it happens to everyone and he is no exemption ── but it is a forced limitation that he loathed. ❝ ── fuck. ❞
Overthinking, huh? Unfortunately for him, that's what Grace has had to rely on for so long. A survival tool that she had depended on heavily until more recently.
Grace watched as each round was fired off. Showing off the decades of experience Leon has under his belt compared to her; she only really got her pistol for self defense means. And didn't really practice at a range like this often. Given her paranoia and fear of being followed.
Part of her wanting to comment that, but here and now really isn't the time for a witty remark.
"Leon!" Panic was started to settle in as Grace immediately went over to his aid. She could see the struggle in his eyes and the betrayal his body was having; and it's clear he hates it. How can Grace focus on practicing when right beside her, a person she deeply considered a friend; was in pain. Choosing to be stubborn and continuing on despite it.
For that moment, it felt like Grace was placed right back to just before she released Elpis. But she can't be stuck there; she has to be in the present and help Leon right now. "Let's...Let's just sit down for a bit. Please....The targets aren't gonna go anywhere while we rest."
