The power in which Les Américain we’ll just say blatant misinformation proud from their chest about anything to do with the Louisiana French identity (and thus the Cajun and Creole identity) is almost astounding. I wish I had that much confidence.
So just a reminder: NOOOOOO! Not all Louisiana French is Cajun French, if somebody is from New Orleans the French they are speaking is 9/10 times, not Cajun. There are multiple different some dialects of Louisiana French! We have (Nola) Louisiana French, this came in with the French settlers who settled in New Orleans and the Lake Ponchartrain area. You have Houma French, which takes many words from the Houma language, it has aspects of both Nola Louisiana French and are next type of French. Cajun french, which came from Acadia, you’ll find this in the more northern parts of Acadiana. Another thing to note is just because somebody is Cajun does not mean they speak Louisiana French, a lot of Cajuns actually did speak Kouri-Vini. All of these little variants of French are understandable to each other, but do have their noticeable differences. There were a couple other little variants of Louisiana French that I didn’t mention, but these are the big ones that I see when it comes too characters. Other variations of French that I’m not going to get into too much: Alabama French, Cane River French, [insert Bayou community] French, and the countless indigenous variant dialects of French from multiple different tribes.
It's weird, today is apparently my one-year Tumblr anniversary and they decided to celebrate by ... undoing all my homepage preferences and changing the colors back to default LOL Happy Tumblr Birthday to me XD
For this Fanart Friday, here is an old (2012) art trade I did with my friend @snowymoth of her character, Houma <3
Houma, Lafitte, Vacherie, and Port Fourchon are underwater as well due to Hurricane Ida. I’ve read some rescue tweets of people stating there’s a number of residents (one being a pregnant woman) who are trapped in their attics after trying to escape the rising water. There’s power outages in New Orleans and other Parishes. as well as some parts of Mississippi.
All of this in the middle of a pandemic...
I have friends in New Orleans that I haven’t heard from since yesterday. I’m hoping they received that alert that the electricity isn’t estimated to be returned until a month from now for New Orleans and other Parishes. Yes, a whole fucking month. However, the transmission tower is nonexistent at this point.
From this:
To this:
Was the 30-day estimate for everyone to receive power before or after they seen this demolished structure? I can’t even wrap my head around this. Complete devastation from what they’re experiencing and the lack of media coverage.
