anyway I know a lot of people on this website are poor and struggling but if any of y'all have money to spare please consider donating to the nicholls state hurricane relief fund.
I normally try not to post anything about my specific university but Thibodaux and Houma are some of the places worst effected by Hurricane Ida. nicholls was lucky enough to make it through with only moderate damage to our campus but the same cannot be said for the surrounding areas. the money will go to help support students and faculty in the bayou region whose homes have been wrecked by this storm.
I personally was able to safely evacuate to stay with family in Texas but the same cannot be said for many of my classmates and professors. People I care about deeply. I know people hear small town Louisiana and think it's nothing but boring and swamp and racist bigots but Nicholls has been my home for the past two years and I would do anything to go back. Louisiana is more than just New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Even if you're unable to donate, please try to remember us when discussing the effects of this storm.
Please also consider donating money or supplies to the Cajun Navy. They were instrumental in helping during the 2016 Baton Rouge floods and they're working on helping as many people as they can statewide. Please also be aware of damage to Laplace, Norco, and Destrehan. The people of Louisiana are strong and I know we'll be able to make it through this but we'll take all the help we can get.

"I took this picture at the laurel valley village and sugar plantation, located in Thibodaux, La. Where slaves were once housed. In the photo there are 3 figures standing at the edge of the porch...looks like a woman a child and a man to me."
