I was invited to join a more traditional ttrpg. My first big DND game and I’m so excited to bring Revathi and Dee into the adventure. My main character, in this story, is Revathi but Dee will be making a guest appearance during the adventure as a much-needed healer.
Dee is a stolen child of Hauthtona, hunted and traded for his innate bond with magic when he was very young. He’s cursed to forget who he really is and was forced into a human form. But his true form is a humanoid unicorn. He’s been serving his captors for 110 years.
Yesterday was a new d&d session of Hoard of the Dragon Queen and, with my warlock, I rolled what is to this day my favorite natural 20 as a player
During our last level up I took a level in rogue instead of warlock. In game we justified the new abilities with a mix of what she learned during the campaign and some special gifts from her patron.
The problem with sneak attack is that it isn't compatible with spell attack and as a warlock the only finesse weapon she can use is daggers. But there is a warlock spell, shadowblade, which can give a simple finesse weapon (so compatible with sneak attack) and inflict psychic damage.
Unfortunately my warlock don't know that spell and since she didn't take a new warlock level she can't swap one of her spell for shadowblade.
Still I asked our GM if he would allow to do it even then. He said that I would to ask my patron directly and rp it but it's possible.
Which bring us to yesterday, my warlock and the ranger against a red wizard (the others were in an other room against an other ennemi) and the ranger just take some nasty scorching rays. Deciding that now is a good time I asked my patron for the shadowblade (at the cost of my bonus action and if I succeed a charisma check)...
... I rolled a natural 20!
So my patron laugh, answer "of course" and the next thing my warlock has a sword made of shadows in her hand.
I hit with my attack (the others didn't know I had sneak attack so that was a fun surprise) and inflict to the wizard more than half his hp in damage.
It was such a rush of serotonin, to ask something to her patron, to be heard and then receive it. Maybe it is similar to what a cleric feels when they succeed in a divine intervention (not at the same scale of course).
I've been on Grumpy Monk withdrawal so doodle dump it is
Image description under the cut!
[Several sketches of a character, Alethra, on a light background. She has short hair and several scars, including one on her left cheek and another, large one on her left shoulder. She is wearing a sleeveless turtleneck, long pants, boots, fingerless gloves, two necklaces, and a sash around her waist.
In the first sketch, she is angry and gesturing at something, saying "Are you kidding me?!".
The second and third sketches are expressions: surprised and angry, respectively.
In the fourth sketch, her back is turned to the viewer and she is wearing a black cloak with the hood up, and she is visibly shaking and tense. She is cursing at someone in Dwarvish. The translation is "Prunish, pondscum piece of-".
In the fifth sketch, she is running and looking behind her. The words next to her say "*extended sounds of monk cursing*".
In the sixth sketch, she is sitting, smiling, and reading a book with her childhood friend and crush, Elyssa, leaning on her shoulder. Elyssa has strawberry blonde hair and freckles. She is wearing a metal breastplate and a brown blouse with long, loose sleeves. A black cloak is covering the lower part of her body like a blanket. An exchange occurs as follows:
Elyssa: "She ate a lot of soup."
Alethra: "Yeah, I guess-"
Elyssa: "Like, an unholy amount."
Alethra: "pfft-"
In the seventh sketch, Alethra is hugging her friend Makizar, who is in metal armor. They both look visibly shaken. Part of Alethra's right arm is bleeding.
In the eighth sketch, Alethra is rubbing her left arm with her right. She looks sheepish. Someone off-screen says "Your town hated you-" and she responds, "Yeah, I know."
In the ninth sketch, she is sitting cross-legged in front of two sets of burning incense. She looks tense and somewhat confused. The text next to her says "*confused baby cleric noises*". END OF DESCRIPTION.]

Been a while since I’ve been able to justify taking the time to draw an up-to-date DnD portrait--let alone one of the whole party! We survived Hoard of the Dragon Queen! Some party members went their separate ways, new ones arrived in their places, and now these brave heroes have embarked on their next quest! Rise of Tiamat... Here’s to surviving!
Rat-Rat: Forest gnome Circle of the Moon druid
Killian (me): Human Eldritch Knight fighter, with his familiar, Gideon
