Just wanted to say that sometimes there IS a reason to leave a halter on! ALWAYS a breakaway halter though. I have a mare that was an abuse case and was near impossible to catch. Normally I would just stick her in a small paddock until she learnt to trust me, but that wasn't an option as all I have/had is a 1 acre paddock. So her halter stayed on until she learnt I wasn't going to hurt her, and that I usually came in with treats. ;) But if something had happened and I wasn't able to catch (cont)
(cont) to catch her, then that halter could have been the difference between life and death (I'm thinking if something big had happened). So, again there ARE reasons that a halter can/should be left on... But I would never leave anything other than a leather/breakaway halter on!!!
