The Fallout series seems to be on sale today because of QuakeCon and was wondering which I should get: Fallout 3 or New Vegas. I was planning on getting both but I am literally 7 cents short and I really don't wanna pre-load any more cash into my Steam wallet (my bank account is already suffering T_T)
New Vegas. I spent about 130 hours in Fallout 3 and got all the Achievements for it back in the day, including the DLC. In my mind it's a game that's worth playing if you get the chance, but ultimately isn't essential to what I consider the main Fallout experience (Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout: New Vegas). The main area I see Fallout 3 decisively win in opinion is setting/level design, but again I prefer New Vegas. I like how certain areas are much more challenging than others for low-leveled characters as opposed to mushy, easy-ish landscape of the Capital Wasteland. Plus having blue skies instead of pickle juice-tinged ones is easier on the eyes (both games are ugly as sin though). I still play New Vegas to this day to test out new runs, different character arcs, mix up my faction alignments, etc., etc. The writing, characters, and quests are much better in NV, as well.To get back to my main point: if you get the chance to get 3 in another sale, go for it. But as far as the must-buy product goes, I choose New Vegas.
