Miranda makes it a rule not to befriend contacts for work, or, even direct coworkers. She maintains her independence, and focus on the tasks at hand. She’s always preferred it that way. But then, sometimes, circumstances make it hard not to find companionship - especially, with shared, common ground of doing everything for family.
So, she takes up Vetra’s somewhat awkward invitation (even through text, she can tell there’s a level of uncertainty there) to one of the lesser known bars on the station. Less notoriety than Afterlife. Truthfully, it’s nice to get away, even to just sip at mediocre swill in the company of someone who gets it. She’s never asked - never really had to - about Sid. Even from a distance, Miranda keeps an eye out on the sister she doesn’t know, to keep her safe.
That much, she can relate.
And so, their glasses clink together - levo and dextro, respectively - as the night continues on. They shoot the proverbial shit; of their line of work, of their coworkers, nothing of value that would endanger them should they be overheard. And by the end of it, Miranda feels a comfortable buzz (despite her high end metabolism already working to rid herself of the feeling).
It feels nice to feel normal, even if they’re just acquaintances.
Vetra offers to walk her to the transport dock. Miranda agrees, although there’s a moment’s pause before departure. The turian woman is that much taller, but in that moment before goodbye, she reaches out, a hand to Vetra’s upper arm as some kind of appreciative gesture, but in their current state of slight inebriation, it’s enough to make her act on that impulse, using her hold to pull the other a little closer, leaning up on her toes. Even in heels, it’s a reach, but she decidedly presses a kiss to an approximation of Vetra’s cheek, though it ends up being a little closer to her mouth than not.
Miranda steps back, and the sudden realization dawns on her that she may have overstepped a boundary, but she clears her throat. “I... uh, thank you. For tonight.” It’s all she can muster as she lets go of Vetra’s arm, feeling fire rise to her cheekbones.
A little impulse goes a long, long way.
