90-100% humidity is really putting the damper on getting the finish on this two-parter. Still looking pretty in that morning workshop light tho ππ€π€

I really love pink ivory wood. It reminds me of our pink rose bush, which is currently on its second round of blooms for the season (swipe for a pic π). Pink ivory is pretty cool stuff, the color is natural, plus itβs a pretty dense, oily hardwood which makes it great for penholders π
Golden amboyna burl ππ€© Usually the grain on this stock is too unstable to use for a full length holder like this, but the piece of wood here grew perfectly to have all the crazy burls at one end with some straighter grain at the other. That straighter grain was in just the right spot to be strong enough for the tail section. Iβve got a bunch more amboyna from this same batch that will be great for two part holders, and if you really love it, I can dig through and see if thereβs another section with some straighter grain that could work for a full length. Itβs really gorgeous stuff, lightweight, and I love that warm golden tone π
Another buckeye burp grip holder. I donβt have any more of the honey locus that I used on the tail of this one right now, but I thought Iβd share it anyway since people were curious about the buckeye on the last holder I shared. This piece is a bit on the darker side with a few more brown patches. I never really know what going to pop out of it when I start carving π
That buckeye burl on the grip of this holder looks a bit like the sky over Chicago this afternoon. I love the natural gray tones and grain patterns in buckeye. Such a cool wood ππ€π€

Lignum vitae... have I mentioned before that I love this stuff? Itβs a pain to carve, but responds wonderfully to sanding and polishing, and it smells amaaaazing. I carved one of my personal use holders from LV and I still occasionally find myself smashing it up against my nose like a scratch-n-sniff sticker when Iβm distracted ππ
Penholder TBT π I really love these stained buckeye pieces. Iβm pretty sure I donβt have any more of the blueish ones like this, but I might have to dig around and see if I have any other colors left that are long enough to make more holders like this.
Figured walnut is apparently popular and in season these days. This holder is from a little bit ago, but now Iβve got two more in progress. They were the last I had stock of, I guess itβs time to go wood shopping ππ
