I went hongdea <3 I love it <33
Story Time in Korea Entry #8 (03.27.13)
This past Friday I went to Hongdea (홍대). I love Hongdea. This province of Seoul screams for attention with not only sound, but color too. Hongdea is a vibrant place rich with budding musicians and artists. The streets are cluttered with young artists selling their handmade crafts or preforming some sort of talent.
These murals are changed up every few months.
At first Hongdea can be an overwhelming place: a swirling vat of colors and sounds rushing at you all at once, but after a few minutes you'll acclimate and be able to enjoy each new experience separately... Instead of all at the same time haha.
While in Hongdea I went shopping :D !
I did a lot of window shopping, many of the shops were too expensive for me <_<. However, I did stumble upon a nice hoody for only $5!
After shopping I went to a very small bar, only the size of a quaint apartment room. I adored this place. All of the feelings of Hongdea were captured in this tiny bar. Colorful post-it notes plastered the walls and little stuffed animals hung from the ceiling, giving this place a soft yet deadbeat feel.
At the bar my friend Gavin and I ate chicken and drank a beer. As we chatted a couple of foreigners walked in. There was just enough space for them to sit next to us. I scooched over and gave them some space. Gavin and I continued to talk, then suddenly *CRASH*, the girl next to me fell flat on her ass LOL... I mean, awww poor thing. But really, it was funny, her chair like moved itself out from under her. She was wiggling around on the floor, so I grabbed her under the arms and pulled her back up. Well, after something like that, you can't just not talk to the person. It turns out she is from Canada and her boyfriend (who was sitting across from her) lives in Singapore. She is a student here in Korea and her boyfriend came to visit her hile she was here.
The night grew late and I wanted to dance! I asked Gavin if we could go to a club. He looked at me, awkwardly smiled, and an anime like sweat drop appeared on his forehead, "Ummm uuu, I'm too old for that stuff." Well I'm sorry, but I'm too old for it too, that ain't gunna stop me lol.

So, I begged him for about 15 minutes until he gave in :D. It was sOooo awesome guys!! We got in for half price cuz we went early and we were able to be right in front. Like, it was me, then the stage :D! And oh boy was I happy to be in front, cuz these two sweaty, hot guys came out onto the stage and started dancing and touching each other ... This was my face at that moment: (ಥ‿ಥ), tears of joy my children. Oh, and it only got better! Cuz then the guy got some alcohol and poured it in our mouths :D (us being the crowd)! Keep it classy people! Hey, I also got to meet Gavin's friend.
Gavin on the right, Caterpillar on the left. I call him Caterpillar because he smokes from this water pipe and he looks like the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland. He's an awesome guy. He said he'll introduce me to his girlfriend.
Anyway, we danced till 5 am, then went to a Jjimjilbang (찜질방). This is a Korean bath house. I thought it would be awkward sauce because you have to be naked when you get into the bath (As a note, the girls and boys are separated). I'm not shy about being naked, but I thought my piercings would attract stares. They didn't though ^_^. It was so nice! There were three bathes each containing hotter water than the next. I looked around and I felt like I was inside an old painting. Mothers were bathing their children and friends were scrubbing each others' backs. It was quite a lovely sight. After I bathed I put on a pink top and pants and left for the co-ed room. There Gavin and I ate grilled eggs and drank Sikhye (식혜) (a slightly sweet, rice drink). This is what people commonly eat and drink at the Jjimjilbang. When we finished eating we went to sleep on the floor. We woke up at about 2pm to what sounded like a hybrid between a herd of elephants and a train... but it was just 4 kids running around screaming and flopping face first onto the floor. Well, there was not going to be anymore sleep with all that ruckus, so we opted to go into the steam room. This was a tiny room within the co-ed room made of rocks. As soon as you opened the tiny door, the heat just hit you. It was much like the feeling of opening your car door on a hot Arizona day, ugh. At first I hated it, but after a few minutes it began to feel nice... Though it felt hella nice to leave the room and let the cool air rush back over my body. Gavin and I then went to a cool down room, then bathed once more, then dressed and left. What a fantastic day ^___^! I'll write more later lovies!
