A strange light appeared in her bedroom window when she was five years old. Poppy Bright, an only child, peeked out in fear from beneath her covers and watched her mother’s sleeping form glide up and into the light.

‘It was only a dream’, her father hummed from behind his paper the next morning, mother whistling her usual morning tune as she went about preparing coffee like nothing happened. But she... saw it. Poppy was certain she saw it, the light had been so bright it woke her up. And the fear was real. The fear of seeing her mother disappear before her. But the more her parents promised it was a dream, she more she began to believe them.

Within a month she had forgotten the incident, though she was sure now and then she saw bright lights in her dreams. One night she had a terribly vivid dream about men in suits arriving, and when she woke and ran to tell her parents, her father was sat slumped by the front door.

She was gone. He didn’t know where or how, she was just... gone. The Bright household would never be the same.

Her father, a journalist, became absorbed with the task of tracking down the truth about his wife’s disappearance. Much of Poppy’s care fell to her aunt, who was warm and chipper if a little bit kooky. But Poppy delighted in perusing her aunt’s great collection of pinned insects, listening one by one to the records of music long past. Poppy could sit for hours in the room filled with newspaper clippings, photographs, bits of metal and vials of dirt, all evidence of life somewhere else in the universe far away from their own.

Without any siblings and an absent father, Poppy found ways to entertain herself growing up. She made friends easily but was often a bit too intense. Her grades were middling to poor and her teachers struggled and failed all through her schooling to pull her out of her daydreams.

But Poppy would rather be exploring. She was taken home by the cops the first time at thirteen after she’d crawled under the fence of a government building and was found with her shorts stuck to the metal. Her longing to explore, to learn, to ask questions and find answers was stronger than what little desire she had to stay out of trouble. And, truthfully, Poppy Bright was always in trouble.

She started her blog with pictures of her exploration when she was sixteen, but by the time she finished high school she’d begun to take videos as well. Known on Simtube for knowing no boundaries when it comes to exploration, she found she was able to do what she loved and make some cash for it.

Now in her early twenties, Poppy is still exploring the world. She’s a highly inquisitive sort and usually skips the small talk and gets right into the deep talk. While she’s not traditionally book smart, she’s a clever and inventive creature and has a gift for mathematics. A lover of colour, her hair is always dyed and she wears as much colour as possible every day. She delights in adventure and spontaneity, and is a firm believer that a person’s dreams exist just beyond their comfort zone.
