yes there’s slow dancing in my lil fic!!

it’s sort of a sequel/spinoff to my canon compliant sunaosa story earth and moon, where sakuatsu are a background/supporting pairing.

in that story they’re both still major volleyball losers, but atsumu is a music nerd and kiyoomi is a hobby artist. they actually have an argument about the feasibility of waltzing to songs in 4/4 and that idea gets expanded upon in their fic and becomes a plot point! (spoiler alert atsumu thinks you can waltz to a song in 4/4 and tries to get kiyoomi to dance with him to prove it)

art and music are fairly important themes along with volleyball throughout the story, which follows sakuatsu from when they first meet at 13 all the way up until the Olympics. it’s told from kiyoomi’s perspective and also deals a lot with OCD, grief, and mental health for them both. it’s my little love letter to them :)

I haven’t posted it yet because I want to get farther in so I have a solid backlog before I start uploading, but here’s an excerpt from the first chapter from when they first meet if you’re curious:

“Shit!” the boy cheers, no longer belligerent, but all blister bright pride. “That was fuckin’ nasty!”

“Do you only have five words in your vocabulary,” Kiyoomi snaps.

The boy rolls his eyes like dice and grins. This is a game. And he’s placing his bet. “I’m ignorin’ that—”

“Ignoring what,” Kiyoomi interrupts, heart rabbiting, running, but he’ll be damned before he does.

“Your horrible personality,” the boy chirps, as he ducks under the net to stroll over to Kiyoomi. “In favor of askin’ who are ya?”

He stands much closer now, still for the first since time Kiyoomi saw him. Yet, there’s something kinetic about him. Lightning that taps against its bottle. Curious to see what it would take for the glass to crack. He’s almost as tall as Kiyoomi, though a bit broader. He looks like a rough sketch of a person. Bold, but uncertain. The sharp, underlying structures of his face and body are blurred and unfinished. As if adolescence can’t decide whether it wants to draw him as handsome or harsh.

Both. It seems like it’s going to be both.
