some misguided adrenaline was coursing through holden. it wasn’t as strong as it had been when it first started but still strong enough to make itself known in subtle ways; the vague numbness in his fingertips or the way that his stomach couldn’t quite settle. the source truly wasn’t even something worth mentioning. some comment from long ago had come back to his mind and connected with something else, and holden, full of dramatic petty outbursts, had latched on to it until it was all he could think about. but he didn’t want that right now. he wanted it gone, he wanted to go back to the relaxing he had been doing before he couldn’t help himself. the fastest way to get that back was just behind one closed door. so holden eased open the door with no ceremony or warning, figuring that basil would be okay with a stop in whenever, no need to ask permission given their resident status. and as if that wasn’t enough - their soulmate status. holden padded barefoot into the room until he was at the bed, which he crawled on and soundlessly wormed his way right up to the man he loved.

a diferencia de lo que imaginó en un principio, no estaba detestando la idea de trabajar. para alguien como él, que no tenía que mentalizarse en hacer lo mismo una y otra vez por el resto de su vida, la experiencia se sentía casi como una actividad recreativa. mientras arrancaba algunas hierbas, escuchó los pasos de alguien más acercarse, asumiéndole alguien de su grupo. ‘ ¿sabes? me veo futuro en esto ’ anunció, casi sonando orgulloso. ‘ ¿crees que elvira quiera adoptarme? ¿o casarse conmigo? ’

saliendo de su habitación, alcanzó avanzar únicamente hasta uno de los grandes ventanales del segundo piso antes de recordar que, estando solo, no había muchas cosas que pudiera permitirse hacer. quizás su sola presencia en el pasillo significara una falta al protocolo, pero... ¿por dónde debería comenzar a buscar a su compañera de habitación? antes de que el paisaje exterior le brindara respuestas, el otro huésped interrumpió sus ideas. ‘ ¿y en las casualidades crees? ’ decidió preguntar, volteando la vista hacia él. ‘ sabiendo que la tormenta dificultaría cualquier búsqueda, digo, tal vez fue un buen momento para... ¿secuestro, es la teoría que barajan? ’
