     ‘ hi, ’ summer taps his shoulder with her left hand, right settling flat against her chest. it’s a funny thing to be this nervous around a human being. then, most people aren’t cosmo brown. ‘ i’m sorry to bother, it’s just, uh -- you’re cosmo brown, aren’t you? ’ 

     ‘ oh, i knew i smelled something funny. ’ lina’s lip curls as sharply as ribbon on a blade, nose wrinkling on up with it. the newspaper she lifts up sharply between them, punctuated with a huff, might have been much more domineering if it weren’t upside down. 

     kathy beams radiantly up at him from waist level, head pillowed ( shockingly! ) comfortably atop his thigh, hands folded neatly against her stomach. her shoes are angled high enough to dangle very nearly off of the other end of the sofa, polite enough to contrast with her skirts strewn haphazardly against the seats. ‘ -- have you ever considered quitting your routine? you make such a wonderful cushion, i’d hardly condemn you for dewdropping. ’ 

“i didn’t expect you to come,” thomas says, voice low. he sits awkwardly, body so incredibly tense; it’s been hard to relax. “ -- -- you shouldn’t have.” he feels guilt, and it keeps building the more visitors he has. cosmo certainly was a SURPRISE, considering he hardly answered his letters. he plays absently with his blanket. he refuses to look directly at cosmo; he can’t. he’s too ASHAMED. “i apologize for worrying you.” | @hokeful
