Kisa looks so cute in her high school uniform. She comes racing over to him, waving her arms excitedly.
"Hiro!" She calls his name with such sweetness it makes his cheeks pink.
They've been dating for some time now. The curse broke while they were still in middle school. It's been about two years since.
"Guess what, Hiro?" She asks, taking his hand. Hiro grips her hand back as they start to walk toward the school.
"What, Kisa?" He wonders with a smile.
"Onee-chan sent me a letter yesterday! She's been enjoying the countryside with Big Brother Kyo! I want to go see her, Hiro! Can we go for summer break?"
He can't help chuckling a bit. That part of her that has this unconditional love for Tohru continues to shine through. He used to be jealous of how much Kisa loved Tohru. It was almost like she was taking Kisa away.
But he's older now. He doesn't feel that way anymore. It makes him happy to see Kisa being so happy talking about her and Kyo.
"I would like to go visit them too, Kisa, you should ask your mom though."
Kisa nods in agreement. "You're right! I'm sure she'll be okay with it."
They enter the building together, going to their separate lockers to change out their shoes. All the while Hiro is deep in thought, something he's been thinking about for a while now. He wants to take that next step with Kisa.
To kiss her for the first time.
It makes him nervous. Would she be okay with it? Would he be bad at it? Should he ask Yuki or Haru or any of his older cousins for advice?
No, I can figure this out on my own. I just need to ask her, right?
It's lunchtime now. They're sitting together on the roof eating their Bentos. He takes her hand while they eat. She smiles at him with that adorable smile of hers, happily holding his hand back. He thinks about what she may do if he were to lean in closer, gently taking hold of her chin and connecting their lips together.
His stomach churns.
"Hiro?" Kisa pulls him out of his thoughts.
He looks up at her. She has a worried look on her face. "Are you okay?"
He flinches. "Ah! Yeah, I'm fine! Why-Why wouldn't I be?" He inwardly kicks himself. C'mon Hiro, you can do this!
"You've been quiet.."
"It's nothing, don't worry about it Kisa!" He digs back into his lunch.
She doesn't look convinced. Her brows are knitted together. But she doesn't push it further.
He ends up not asking Kisa about kissing her.
That evening, lying upon his bed, he calls up Kyo.
"Moshi Moshi?" It's Tohru that answers.
"Uh, Hi, Tohru.. it's um,"
"Hiro! Oh! What a surprise to hear from you!"
"Ah-hah, yeah, um, could I talk to Kyo?"
"You want to talk with Kyo-kun?" He can hear the curiosity in her voice.
"Yeah, is he there?"
"He is! Just a second." She puts the phone down and he can hear her voice in the distance talking to him. The sound of heavier footsteps approaches.
"Hiro? What are you calling for?" It's Kyo now, the surprise evident in his voice.
Hiro fidgets. His face is so red. "M-Maybe I want to ask you something, is that so wrong?"
Kyo chuckles. "No, but I can't say that I'm not surprised. What's going on?"
"Iwanttoaskyouaboutkissing!" He says the words in a mumbled mess.
"Wait, what was that?" Kyo asks.
"I..want ask you about..about.." Hiro swallows, whispering the last word. "kissing."
"Wait, what! You want to ask me about kissing! Why?"
"B-Because you have Tohru, right, and well, I figured maybe you might-"
"Hey Tohru, he wants to ask me about kissing!"
"Awww!! That's so cute! He probably wants advice about kissing Kisa, right?!!" Tohru is gushing.
Hiro hangs his head in embarrassment.
"Y-Yes okay??" He groans
"Are you telling me you're in your second year of high school and you haven't kissed her yet!"
"W-Well you didn't kiss Tohru until your last year!" Hiro resorts back.
"Touche." Kyo chuckles again. "But in all seriousness, Hiro, you just have to go for it."
"Just.. for it?"
"It's what I did and it worked out pretty well."
The following day, Hiro thinks about his convention with Kyo as he waits for Kisa so they can walk to school together. Just for it, he had said. So.. just kiss her? God, would he even have the nerve to do so?
"Hiro!" Kisa is bouncing up to him once again, her soft light brown hair dancing in the breeze. He watches her in awe.
"Good Morning!" She says with a beaming smile, lacing her around his.
"G-Good Morning, Kisa." His face is turning red again. He wonders if she had noticed him staring.
"You ok?" Kisa's smile is replaced with a concerned look similar to yesterday.
Hiro shakes his hand, pulling her along. "I'm fine, Kisa, let's get going."
When it's lunchtime again, they go back up to the roof together to eat their lunch. Kisa immediately notices his strange behavior once again. How he hasn't even touched his food.
"Hiro, something's wrong. I can just tell. You've been asking strange since yesterday. Please tell me what's wrong. I want to help."
Hiro swallows. "I'm sorry, Kisa.. I've just been nervous to ask you something."
Kisa smiles. "You know you can ask me anything, right?"
He nods. "But.. this is a big deal. A big deal for us."
"For us?" Kisa's brows lift.
"Yeah, because.. I've been wondering.. " Hiro gathers up his courage, lifting a hand to place it under her chin. He draws her face closer to his own. Kisa's face reddens.
"Hiro..." Her voice is so soft. Her soft goldenrod eyes shift between his own and his lips.
"Can I.. kiss you?" He whispers it against her lips.
Kisa's hand comes up to grip the fabric of his uniform. She nods.
Hiro's heart thumps nervously. He closes the gap, gently connecting their lips together for the first time. All he can think of is how soft Kisa's lips are.
