A Touchwork Year-end HintHunt in Woodstock (2019-11-29)

To celebrate the end of a successful 2019 work year, the sister teams of Touchwork (Yay!), Hypenica, RegNow, African Agri Council, and Cape Business News all gathered together at The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock, ready to forgo last year’s wine tasting in exchange for some mental gymnastics instead. One weekend, a few friends and I wanted to do something, but we weren’t sure what exactly it was we wanted to do... Ideas such as; the beach, someones house and have a day filled with movies, rock climbing, bounce, the pool had all been thrown around but we still couldn’t collectively decide on something we were all 100% enthusiastic about.

Recently, I’d heard about an escape room my friends’ cousin, my brother and some other people had gone to and thoroughly enjoyed, so we decided to look into it. We found a few escape rooms in Dubai; Escape Quest, Challenge Chambers, Brainscape Games, but we decided on HintHunt. Hint Hunt is an escape game, designed for groups of 3-5. You have an hour to whirl through a mass of puzzles and riddles in a small room (or series of increasingly smaller rooms), with an aim of getting out before your time runs out. There are two room choices; James Murdock’s Office (of which there are 3 identical rooms so it’s great for larger groups of people and creates more of an intense and competitive feeling to the situation) There is also the option of the Zen Room, which as the name suggests, has a zen-like theme to it

The next day, my friends (Clodagh, Guy, JT, Keryn, Renee, Tayla, Timmy and Victor) and I met up and then split ourselves into the following teams; Team 1; Guy, Tayla, Victor and Clodagh Team 2; JT, Renee, Keryn, Timmy and Katja (me) As soon as the timer began, we all rushed about frantically, looking under, above, in and around everything in the rooms Whenever we were really stuck, a noise would be made through the speakers and a hint would be given to us. In the end, Team 1 won (ironically) getting out with 4 minutes remaining and Team 2, we just got out by the skin of our teeth with 32 seconds to spare! Overall, it was good fun, and I’m sure we would all recommend it to anyone interested. Prices
