I finished it in time!!!!

I read until 5 AM this morning and then around 5 PM this afternoon I picked it back up to finish it. 

I loved the book. I wish I had remembered to post when I did the first session so I could talk about my thoughts, but I didn’t!

Umm favorite things were Elide racing across the battlefield for Lorcan, Dorian’s trap for Maeve, and as heartbreaking as it was, the scene with the Thirteen was absolutely stunning. I actually cried about the Thirteen, the only time I literally cried over this entire series. 

The “take it off” scene was unbelievably tense and so sad. And the battles were straight up epic and so vivid. 

I got in an hour of reading, so that is nice.

Multi POVs are here!! FINALLY. I am excited to see the perspectives from all these characters.

Celaena has met Rowan, who I know is definitely part of a ship pair, so I guess romance or like hate sex will blossom from that. I miss not seeing anything about Fleetfoot so I hope she shows up in a chapter soon.

I’m at the halfway mark! Celaena and Chaol are bumping uglies. Dorian believes he has magic. I suspect Nehemia put a Wyrdmark on him to either tap into hidden magic or maybe make him think he has it. No one was around when he punched the wall and the glass shattered, what if it is all in his head? 

He has met Aelin once before, so is there nothing present in her now that would allow him to see who she is. Did Celaena hide how she looks or change her looks enough that she would not be comparable to who she was as a child. Or is she just enough of a different person that no one would think that.

One more down, two more to go!

The last sixty pages was intense. Everyone is devastated and angry.

Aelin is always scheming. Kind of upset that Aedion is being such an ass and being mean to Lysandra when all she did was follow her Queen’s orders to help save everyone. Like be a general and stop being a dick.

I finished this around 1 PM.

The battle at Mistward happened and Celaena learned to forgive herself or at least feel that she was worthy of the sacrifices others have made of her. She showed Maeve her full power and also freed Rowan from his blood oath. I bet she will end up having one hell of a showdown with her before the series end.

Manon is rethinking her bloodthirsty ways a little. She saved a rival instead of taking a clear advantage and let a sworn enemy have her say before killing her. I think her Grandmother is plotting against her. I am always excited for her POV, so I look forward to it in Queen of Shadows.

Sorscha! SJM did it again. Like was it necessary to do that to Sorscha just to make the scene with Chaol and Dorian happen? Sorscha was basically cannon fodder and I am not cool with that. SJM does this a lot though, so I shouldn’t be surprised.

And my probably isn’t that characters can’t die, it is that they only use their death has an immediate way to move the story forward or an enormous thing to push a character over the edge. Like instead of choices being made from multiple events and a continuation of something, they use it instead as an emotional bomb to speed things up. I’ve never liked that in books, television, or movies. ESPECIALLY, if it seems the character was introduced for that sole purpose.

Even though some aspects of her writing annoy me or feel a little redundant/lazy, she is excellent at writing how grief and trauma affects a person and making memorable and convincing healing arcs for characters.

I thought it was a great way to reveal background about all the characters and pass time in the series without having to cover it in the next book. Especially since it has set up the next book where the focus will be Nesta and Cassian. That will be interesting.

I have read most of the book today. I stayed up all night reading it, mainly because I slept late yesterday.

I am so close to finishing it, but I have to do schoolwork.

So the whole damn book has happened since I last posted. Blossoming friendship between Feyre, Rhys, and the Inner Circle. I love found family storylines, so that was a plus.

The sparring scene on the roof with Cassian when she finally broke down about what happened Under the Mountain was BEAUTIFUL and I loved it.

I wanted more out of the scene with Lucien in the woods. However, I love everything she said to him and I hope when they come face to face again, that he will choose Feyre or even stand up for himself.

I wish more of the Courts had been seen other than the Summer Court, but I enjoyed that whole section.

They are mated, which I figured would happen. I could take it or leave it. I don’t care for meant to be storylines. If they choose each other, that is fine, but for any of it to be guided fate, I don’t like that. So, big whoop.
