@hideandsqueek It’s not even that they disagreed with any of the things I love about the episode. They also loved the dialogue between Ten and Lindsay Duncan, and the Time Lord Victorious (if they had any complaint, it was that he came to his senses too quickly, which i think we all said back then. We wanted a full episode of dark!Ten). They just complained about things that I didn’t remember, like poor development of some of ancillary characters, repetitive shots of the water getting in to the base, bad acting by the dude who controlled the robot, or the queerbaity-ish thing Doctor Who did all the time back then where they overtly mentioned a gay relationship off screen and acted like that was representation. All true. I just have tunnel vision when it comes to “The Waters of Mars”. :)

The good old days of Ten angst. He really did it so well. And yeah, a lot of their criticisms are valid, but when listening to their podcast I can’t help but transport back to the mindset I had in 2006-2010 when watching each episode as it aired and feel like they just don’t get it. I’m very protective of dumpster fire Ten.

@starlessness Aww, bless. I haven’t seen all of the Capaldi eps and probably never will unless my completionist side overrules my anti-moffat side. But in any case, the Jodie Whittaker - Chris Chibnall regime is giving me a new lease on this fandom.

I don’t think I have her voice yet. I’m willing to try, but probably not till the season ends.

13. Has a fic ever made you cry?

Yes, though not the first time I read it. The second time through the final chapter of Nostalgia’s Notes on the Domestication of Birds, though? Many tears.

27. Rough sex or gentle sex?

Either? It really depends on the fic, honestly. I have a very low tolerance for flowery language, and especially so in gentle sex – and I have equally low tolerance for the kind of “come for me”/”you’re mine” possessive language sometimes found in fics with rough sex. So really, what it comes down to for me is whether I like the language in the fic overall; if I do, I’ll probably like the sex scenes.

44. How fluffy is too fluffy?

5. What is an image/set of images that you’re particularly proud of? Imagery and metaphor are weak spots of mine, so I’m always pleased when I get one down that feels just right to me. The passage at the beginning of chapter 2 of Tangrams, where Rose realizes how much traveling by vortex manipulator reminds her of the same breathless fear she had nearly falling into the Void in “Doomsday”; a brief passage at the end of Conversations With the Flesh, where Cleaves sees the Flesh!Doctor, now in liquid form, as “fearless, exploratory tendrils curling in and out of the porous stone”; and jeez, now that I look back at my list of fics on Teaspoon, I’m really proud of the imagery in Heartbeats, the Sandman crossover now totally jossed by “Night and the Doctor.” You can’t write Delirium without writing imagery, but this brief passage of dialogue, which refers both to multiple companions and to Death, may be my favorite part:

"Hearts that taste like golden mist and ambergris and little fluffy bunnies. Some hearts you ordered with coffee in Paris instead of lemon biscuits. Thorny hearts and patient hearts and jealous hearts and the heart of a sailor washed ashore.

"And thousands and thousands of hearts for my sister."

6. Idea that you always wanted to write but could never make work? garpusstuff asked about this one, too, and up until a year or so ago, I’d have said, “Handy/Rose/River, goddammit.” Right now most of what’s frustrating me is my inability to cudgel any of my original fiction ideas into shape, but I still have some fic lying around in my unfinished drafts folder that I hope to finish someday: a Nine/Donna AU (a proper AU that diverges from canon instead of one of these coffeeshop-college-spy-stripper-CEO AUs the kids are all writing nowadays, ahem), and I still have about a third of “Doctor Who and the Timey-Wimey Marriage,” a multi-Doctor Four/Romana fic, written and languishing on my hard drive for I don’t even want to say how many years.

I am still working on bed-sharing fic! Really. Ish.

Dang. Oh how I wish I could have seen this production.
