Mirabel being so desperate to keep up, to be helpful, while being pitied or scorned by her family for just trying to belong and prove herself....that's EXACTLY like what growing up neurodivergent in a neurotypical household is like.
You try to work twice as hard to do even a scrap of what everyone else can, but everybody else has such ease that you just end up getting in the way. I've heard the EXACT, and I mean EXACT phrase "sometimes the best way to help is to step aside". You feel like you're broken or wrong because everyone else can do what you can't, and they cannot comprehend why you can't. Sometimes they even get angry with you.
My brain was different than everyone else's and it was treated as a burden that got in the way. I couldn't "move the mountains", or "make the flowers bloom", and it lead to a lot of traumatizing hardship before I was diagnosed. Seeing Mirabel save face over and over and over before she finally breaks in "Waiting On A Miracle" was entirely too hard hitting; I don't know if they made Mirabel's "unspecialness" mirror neurodivergence on purpose, but I saw A LOT of myself in that movie
