nothing will disconnect me more from the story of horizon 3 than aloy having multiple potential romance options that get determined by the player. i just feel like in a game with so much storytelling nuance, it would be weird for aloy’s romantic partner to not be canon or be alongside aloy during the main quests at some point down the line. and you can’t make every romance the same with just a different person, so i feel like the game would lose a lot of depth for me if aloy’s love life is not intertwined with the main story. you know, the way elisabet’s is in forbidden west?
for example in dragon age games, i love inquisition but the only relationship that feels canon to me (rather sadly for a lot of the fandom who doesn’t favor this ship) is solavellan. and that’s because it ties into the story so well. i played through the game to try every romance with solas being near last and i couldn’t believe how much depth it added to the game. and then it made me sad for all my other inquisitors and their romances that felt…… flat. because the writers obviously had a favorite inkie/companion pairing, but had to keep options in the game because they were in each predecessor.
your fanservice should not be as important to you as getting a well-written third game, and the fact that everyone only started rioting for optional romances in the third game after seeing seyka and aloy kiss in burning shores shows that we don’t need other options. “it was rushed” literally all they said was that they liked each other and maybe even kissed if you let them. this romance is just beginning and we should be praying it will become an intrinsic part of the story. because both of them have so much potential to learn from one another, and i’m going to be pissed if their full romance is cut because you guys wanted the option to project your straightness onto poor aloy.
