Tips

During Freshers always have cash on you when going out - there are several free-to-use cash machines but during Freshers week the queues are large so its worth getting cash out in-advance.

Don’t be afraid to talk to new people, everyone is in the same boat, and everybody is looking to make new friends. But don’t be worried if you don’t get round to meeting loads of people and when you start your course you will meet lots of like-minded people all with the same interests whether it’s politics or drama.

Emails will become a way of life. You will always be checking your emails at uni as its the easiest way to communicate with everybody, whether its your lecturers emailing about a change to your lecture time/place, societies asking you to join, or your mates asking about an assignment. Our advice would be to try and get your emails on your phone so you have the ability to check your emails wherever you are. Otherwise we recommend you check emails at least once a day.

Try new things! There are hundreds of sports clubs and societies, and getting involved is best way to gain experience, learn new things and meet new people. University is probably the only time you will get to try so many new experiences, and it doesn't matter if you're rubbish at Fencing its the fact you had a go.

Buy earplugs! Living on campus accommodation can be noisy! Especially at night times! Investing in a pair of these bad boys can give you them extra few hours sleep before that big exam or deadline!

Pens & Pencils ( Stock up as they like to go missing )

Highlighters

Rubber / Ruler set

Folders and plastic sleeves

Notebooks! (Plenty of these)

Stapler set!

Blu-tak  ( For Posters too!)

Diary or Calender  ( You will have a lot to remember)

Dictionary/Thesaurus

Calculator

Printer & Paper ( if you don’t want to pay them nasty printing fees)

Memory stick or Backup Hardrive ( ALWAYS back up your work. Sympathy isn’t given by lecturers if you lose a piece of work)

White board & pen ( for quick notes)

Kitchen & Bathroom!

Dinner set ( Not too much as you will have limited storage)

Cups & Glasses (Plastic ones will also come in handy for them tipsy moments and will stop breakages!)

Cutlery

Scissors

Saucepan & Frying pan ( Again not too many due to storage restrictions!)

Tea Towels

Oven glove(s)

Food storage ( Comes in handy in keeping food fresh/storing cooked food)

Towels

Toiletries (Toothbrush, toothpaste, shower cream etc)

Bedroom!

Quilt

Pillows

Mattress protector ( In some cases these are supplied)

Fitted sheets

Duvet set

Cleaning products!

All – Purpose cleaner ( This will be useful at times of accidents and spills )

Washing up liquid ( Everyone you share a kitchen with will have one, but they will go fast.)

Bin bags

Toilet roll ( Most people buy in bulk and store to save money)

Cloths ( To clean with)

Laundry detergent

Fabric conditioner

All others!

Door wedge

Extension cables

Batteries

First aid kit or Plasters etc

Paracetamol ( You will need a lot of this throughout the year)
