I moved into uni on Friday and I love it so far! It has been a tiny bit quiet / lonely bc the freshers events haven't started yet but I've enjoyed talking with my new flatmates and a friend I met beforehand:) I'm looking forward to the events next week !!!
PS Look at my snack bowl :)
u guys i’m so drunk right now all i want is to gossip to mason
I love having chats with d1 about her going to uni. It gives me all these opportunities to prepare her emotionally for the upheaval in ways that my parents never did for me.
This evening she has been calculating her budget and talking about getting a job to and also doing some volunteering. I said they were great ideas and definitely if she has the capacity and wants to, she could go for it. But I said don’t underestimate the enotional and physical energy required to settle in when you move to a new city and start a new course and meet new people and have to look after yourself for the first time. I said she might find that at first just doing that is quite enough and in that case not to put pressure on herself to do anything extra for a while.
The other night I got a chance to talk to her about how she will have some days where she just feels really wobbly and like it’s all too much and she doesn’t want to do it. And when those days come, just know that it’s really normal to feel that way and it will pass, like maybe you just have to see that day out and then go to bed and when you wake up the next morning you’ll feel more positive.
I think she’s going to do just fine at university and will probably thrive on the independence once she gets settled in, but it can never harm to give her some tools so she knows that if she has bad days, she can get through them.
