Incomplete list of people I want to be particularly proud this month
Aromantic and arospec people, for wonderfully living in this world even when amatonormativity denies our very existence. We all have to be more pride in ourselves, and in the unique view on life our aromanticism gives us.
Aromantic asexual people, who break not just one so called universal trait of humanity but two, whose lack of attraction isn’t an emptiness to be filled but a beautiful thing that needs to be celebrated.
Aromantic allosexuals, because sexual attraction isn’t dirty or wrong. Sex and attraction are great, and should be celebrated for their own sake and not just as something tacked on to romance.
Non-SAM aromantics, aromids, and other aromantics who are just aromantic, because aromanticism is a whole orientation in and on itself, and there’s no need to tack on anything else to it.
Arospec people that occasionally feel romantic attraction, or aren’t sure whether they feel it or not, and are not for that any less aromantic. Navigating demiromanticism or greyromanticism or any other arospec orientation isn’t easy, and their experiences greatly enrich the aromantic community.
Aromantics who are also gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, who are not lesser for not relating to slogans such as love is love and deserve a space to make their opinions heard in their communities.
Aromantic heterosexuals, who deserve a place that accepts them and allows them to talk of their experiences with sexuality, because they are valuable and important and being heterosexual is not something that lessens their belonging into our community.
Aromantic trans and nonbinary people, because breaking out of multiple systems is brave and beautiful. Trans people deserve love, but also deserve to refuse the love they don’t want to deal with.
Loveless aromantics, romance repulsed aromantics, all the people who are sick and tired of love being shoved in their faces, and feel they can’t align with the broader queer community because of it. Be proud of not loving, there’s nothing wrong with it.
Romance favorable aromantics, who are too often ignored by outsiders as they don’t understand their identity. Loving love and not falling in love are neither mutually exclusive nor contradictions, celebrate your complexities.
Mentally ill aromantics and neurodivergent aromantics, because aromanticism is not just a symptom, and even if some cases it is connected to neurodiversity? It doesn’t make it any less true and valuable.
Aromantics who are aromantic because of trauma, who shouldn’t be ashamed of their orientation just because of how it came to be. Even if it comes from a place of pain, it’s still their right to delight in it if they want.
Aromantics of color, who have to deal with the intersection of aromanticism and the harmful stereotypes surrounding their race, and who too often aren’t given enough spaces. Their voices are important, and should be uplifted.
Disbaled aromantics, because disabled people’s sexuality is so often dismissed. Disabled aros aren’t undesireable or unable to consent, they are just aromantic, and that is a great thing to be.
Aromantic women, who are not less women because they don’t want things society tells them all women should want.
Aromantic men, who are not predators and are not shallow, who are all deserving of respect.
