i gotta say, following you through this big tumblr exodus has been really reassuring. i'd probably be much more of an anxious mess if not for your posts.
Hang in there, pal. I will tell you how this is gonna happen.
This is most likely the upset to tip the boat. People are going to finally move to other sites and feel out where they want to go. But people will not vanish on you overnight. Many people will post sort of the same content in multiple places as they figure out what community they want. It’ll be a slow bleed out and the upside is you will probably find what your preferred replacement will be in that process, be it PF or Twitter or Discord or back to DW.
This is gonna sound horrible but I’m in a sense relieved this is happening. The writing has been on the wall for Tumblr since the Yahoo buy, and I’m eager to see what comes next for us all. I just hope we don’t all lose our support nets and communities in the process.
But I’ve personally restarted twice before: first with FF.net when they did their adult content purge, to LJ, and then with LJ and Strikethrough/Boldthrough, to DW and Tumblr. It’ll be okay.
